Rams’ WR Jeremy Carter will update fans on his progress with the Frankfurt Galaxy with a diary from NFL Europe .  Carter, an undrafted free agent signed by the Rams in 2005, is in his first NFL Europe season and is one of three Rams allocated to NFL Europe, joining WR Brandon Middleton (Rhein Fire) and RB Fred Russell (Cologne Centurions).

Trials and Tribulations

This week went pretty well.  It’s the third week, so we’re really starting to put everything together.  Our offense is starting to look real good, but yesterday I don’t think we gave a real good look at how good we are going to be.  We played sluggish, and I don’t think coach was too happy with our performance as a team.

We played Amsterdam, and they seemed decent.  I’m not sure if they were on top of their game or if we just weren’t on top of ours, but they seemed to be pretty good.  It’s kind of hard to gauge a team’s talent in the pre-season, but they looked pretty alright.

I thought I played pretty well.  I may have had one or two missed assignments, but overall I think I did pretty well against their cornerbacks.  I banged my knee on the ground when I was coming off the line one time.  I felt that on a couple plays, but it’s not serious or anything.  It’s a little sore today, though.  My left hamstring is sore as well.  But that’s just training camp.  We should be getting a few days off pretty soon, so I’ll be able to rest my body and take care of some things.

I’m going to rent a car this weekend because there are some things that I need to take care of before I go to Germany.  I’d like to check out the beach, and I also haven’t been to the mall yet.  That’s something I’d like to do.  I need to get some European converters for all my electronics because the outlets are different over there, and I want to get some new PSP (Portable Sony Playstation) games so I won’t be bored on the plane.

I feel like my development is coming along real well.  One thing that coach Jones really emphasizes is our blocking technique.  He’s making sure we’re learning how to cut, and learn how to step on the defensive back’s toes so we can get in their chests and drive them where we want them to go.  This makes the running game effective.  Those types of things have really helped with my development as a player.  I’m feeling really good about my play lately.

NFL camp is different from NFL Europe camp.  You have a bit more time to relax as far as the day goes.  In NFL camp, I might get an hour to unwind, because we don’t break for the day until around ten o’clock at night.  By then, it’s time to go to sleep.  In NFL Europe, we have a four- or five-hour block of free time.  It’s nice.

Our jerseys look pretty good.  At first I was a little iffy about the purple and orange, but they look pretty good once they’re on.  I want to see what the all white uniforms look like.  I bet those will look great.

I’m getting anxious to get to Europe, and I’m ready to break camp.  The final scrimmage is coming up, and I’m ready for it.  I haven’t prepared any differently than I normally do, other than continue to get enough sleep.  I usually get to sleep by around 11:00 pm, but sometimes I’ll take a nap during the day.  When I do that, it makes it hard sometimes to get to sleep at night.

I’m looking forward to seeing Frankfurt’s stadium.  I’ve heard that we have the best fans, and that about 40,000 people show up to the games.  I come from a small school so that’s going to be an adjustment for me.  I’ve never played in front of a crowd that large.  For me, there are always a few butterflies before any game, but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue for me.  I’m excited.
