The Rams held their final practice at Rams Park today before their final tune-up before the regular season. The team wraps up their 2013 preseason schedule with the defending World Champion Baltimore Ravens, just as they did in 2012.
Today’s practice marked the final opportunity for the coaches and scouts to evaluate players in a practice setting before the roster is trimmed to 53 on Saturday, August 31, by 5 p.m. CT. Rams starters are expected to get some work in this week’s game, but Coach Fisher alluded after practice that he may adjust his philosophy slightly to fit the needs of the team.
“The philosophy has been to build reps throughout camp,’ Coach Fisher said. “That has been the way we’ve done it in the past. We may adjust that ever so slightly this week.”
All of the work that has been put in on the practice field and in games will be taken into consideration in the final evaluation process.
“We talked about that,” Coach Fisher said. “It’s a combination. It’s an accumulation of work. Through that accumulation you want to see improvement. It’s a total package thing as far as making the final decisions.”
Coach Fisher and his staff go into each preseason game with the intent to win, but place more importance on player health and evaluation purposes.
“You set out to win each and every preseason game,” Coach Fisher said. “Sometimes it doesn’t happen. So, that’s our focus – is on winning the game. In addition to that, we still need to continue to evaluate players and finish up strong, work on a few areas.”
The team will have a walk-thru tomorrow and get the take at the Edward Jones Dome at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday.
