OVERVIEW
Salas, a two‐time All‐Western Athletic Conference performer, hauled in over 100 passes in each of the last two seasons. Salas’ 285 receptions rank third in WAC annals and tie for 15th in NCAA history. His 4,345 career receiving yards mark a Hawaii school record, rank third in conference history and tie for sixth in NCAA history. Salas lettered in football and as a member of the track and field squad at Chino High School. As a senior on the gridiron, he led the Chino Cowboys to a 9‐3 overall record while earning All‐League selections as a defensive back and wide receiver. After his prep career, he committed to the University of Hawaii as a safety.
Salas enrolled at the University of Hawaii in 2006 and retained eligibility by redshirting his true freshman season. The following season, he saw action in eight games at wide receiver, catching three passes for 35 yards (11.67 avg.) and one score. His main contribution came in the season‐opener vs. Charleston Southern, when he caught two passes for 26 yards, including a 24‐yard touchdown. After his freshman season, Salas started all 14 games at wide receiver and finished second on the team with 57 receptions for 831 yards (14.58 avg.) with three touchdowns. He placed 10th in the WAC in receptions per game (4.07) and eighth in receiving yards per game (59.36).
Salas enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2009 role as he started 12‐of‐13 games and led the Warriors with 106 receptions for 1,590 yards (15.00 avg.) with eight touchdowns. He ranked sixth in the nation in
receptions per game (8.15) and fourth in receiving yards per game (122.31).
Salas’ 1,590 receiving yards ranked third on Hawaii’s season record chart, fifth in WAC history and 22nd in NCAA annals. The junior receiver also broke Davone Bess’ Hawaii record for most receptions in a
game (15 vs. Boise State in 2007) with 16 vs. New Mexico State.
Salas earned All‐Western Athletic Conference first‐team accolades and was named Hawaii’s Offensive Most ValuablePlayer. He was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week after catching seven
passes for 180 yards and one touchdown vs. Central Arkansas.
Salas entered his senior season as a member of the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation’s top receiver. He was named a team captain, started all 14 games and had 119 receptions
for 1,889 yards (15.87 avg.) with 14 TDs. He finished third in the nation in receptions per game (8.50) and second in receiving yards per game (134.93).
Salas’ 119 receptions rank first in Hawaii history, second in WAC annals and 11th in NCAA season history. His 1,889 receiving yards surpassed Ashley Lelie’s school and conference record (1,713, 2001)
and rank fourth in NCAA annals.
Salas earned first‐team all‐conference honors for the second time and was named a third‐team All‐American by the Associated Press. He was named Hawaii’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player for the
second time and was one of two recipients of the team’s Captain’s Award.
