The Rams Community Player of the Week presented by Ameren Missouri is fullback ![]()
Miller does not often make highlight-reel catches or ankle-breaking jukes on the gridiron. In fact, the fullback’s name can sometimes be tough to find in the box score. But make no mistake, Miller has a profound impact on the St. Louis Rams each week in a role that transcends stats and box scores. And just as he is willing to serve his team in any capacity, Miller makes a similar effort in the community.
Earlier this year, Miller hosted a golf tournament to benefit his high school in Decatur, Ill. The event raised $10,000, funds that will be used to help the school provide with educational resources and fund facility improvements. In addition, Miller gave back to his hometown by inviting a select group of kids to tour the ContinuityX Training Center. He brought them out to the Rams’ training facility and gave them a glimpse of a day in the life of an NFL player and a behind the scenes tour.
Working with children and young adults is a passion of Miller’s. He volunteered at the High School Player Development Camp hosted by the Rams, offering tips and advice to those in attendance. Miller assisted in achieving the goals of the camp – to improve participants’ on-field techniques and skill development and to build life skills and character development.
Over the summer, Miller also led kids at the Monsanto YMCA in a day of health and nutrition. Through the program, Rams ReciPEs, Miller guided a group of kids in exercises and helped them prepare healthy snacks. Rams ReciPEs is an extension of NFL Play 60, the league’s campaign to encourage youth to be active for at least 60 minutes each day. Throughout the day, Miller encouraged kids to eat nutritious food, stay active and build healthy habits for their future.
In recognition of his efforts and sacrifice on the field, Miller was selected by his teammates as the Rams’ recipient of the 2011 Ed Block Courage Award. Since 1984, the Ed Block Courage Foundation has honored one player from each team who best exemplifies inspiration, sportsmanship and courage. Players vote for the teammate they think best embodies these characteristics. And Miller’s continuous effort and sacrifice on the field earned him the respect of his team.
The Ed Block Courage Foundation established a network of “Courage Houses” as part of the program. Those honored with the award are encouraged to get involved. Like he does when blocking for teammates, Miller threw himself full on into working with St. Louis’ Courage House, Our Little Haven.
The goal of Our Little Haven is to help prevent child abuse and assist with the treatment of abused or neglected kids. The organization says it cares of children “mind, body and soul.” Miller made the decision to help raise money for Our Little Haven to assist them in continuing their mission. Over the summer, he introduced a line of shirts known as “Chubby Domination.” The shirts contain phrases championing rounder physiques. Try as he might, Miller has never been able to shed his stockier body type. As a result, the Chubby Domination line was created. A percentage of the shirt sales are used to help Our Little Haven.
“Brit, like so many of our leaders in the locker room, has made giving back a priority. He continuously uses his time, energy, resources and outgoing personality to help youth,” said Molly Higgins, vice president of corporate communications/civic affairs, St. Louis Rams. “Brit is an exceptional example of someone who gives 100% of themselves to their teammates on the field and 100% to this community when he steps off the turf.”
