Rams Announce Race to Kick Off 2013 Football Season

Posted May 17, 2013

ST. LOUIS – Today, the St. Louis Rams and Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI) announced an event for football fans to combine their love of running with their passion for the blue and gold at the 2013 Rams Back to Football Run. The race will be held at the Edward Jones Dome on Saturday, September 7, the day before the Rams’ season opener against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals.

The Rams Back to Football Run invites fans to share in the glory of the gridiron while supporting a healthy and active lifestyle by completing a 5K (3.1 mile) distance run. Participants will have the unique opportunity to cross the finish line on the 50-yard line of the Edward Jones Dome, where the Rams will compete the following day.

“On the heels of the NFL Draft, we are feeling the community’s tremendous excitement around the Rams and we’re looking forward to keeping that enthusiasm going strong leading into the season and throughout 2013,” said Brian Killingsworth, vice president of marketing and brand strategy, St. Louis Rams. “The Back to Football Run is a perfect way to help celebrate the return of football on opening weekend. It allows us a great opportunity to highlight our organizational and league-wide commitment to health and wellness and the PLAY 60 platform, while engaging our fans in a fun manner.”

The race is part of the NFL Back to Football Run Series, which started in 2012 and features 5K and 10K races in partnership with various NFL teams. Four teams participated in 2012 and at least 12 teams are expected to hold races in their respective cities in 2013. A majority of the running events will take place in conjunction with the opening weekend of the NFL season and will include autograph opportunities and NFL skill challenges at each location. The event also includes a Rams PLAY 60 Kids’ Fun Run that finishes on the field as well.

“We’re thrilled to see this series grow and be embraced by more teams around the country as running continues to evolve and reach new participants,” said Jamie Monroe, Event Director of the NFL Run Series. “The NFL Back to Football Run Series welcomes families and fans of all ages to enjoy a fun day of celebration, while also making the positive choice to get moving and have a healthy lifestyle.”

Ticket bundles are available for participants who want to attend the Rams season opener against the Cardinals the following day. Game day tickets can be purchased as part of a race registration ticket bundle. Additional tickets are available for $49 each. All tickets will be available for pickup on race day at the Rams Back to Football Run.

A tailgate party with live entertainment and a Bud Light Beer Garden will take place after the race and all participants will receive an official race shirt in addition to a commemorative medal at the finish.

Event registration is now available. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit NFLRunSeries.com.
