Community Player of the Week: Robert Quinn

Posted Oct 1, 2013

The St. Louis Rams Community Player of the Week is defensive end Robert Quinn.

2013 is already shaping up to be an important season for Robert Quinn. His impressive outing in the home opener against the Arizona Cardinals, where he logged three sacks and two forced fumbles, earned him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. And as the season progresses, he continues to prove his talent as a pass-rusher consistently demonstrating his strength and speed during key moments of the game.

But despite accolades for taking down quarterbacks on the field, Robert is really known in the St. Louis community as someone who builds people up when they need it most.

Because St. Louis is a national leader in medical advances and care, especially for children, there is a constant influx of visiting families in the St. Louis area. Robert lends his support to those families in need by supporting Haven House, Ronald McDonald House Charities and St. Louis Children’s Hospital through the All Community Team program. Each home game Robert purchases tickets and donates them to families connected with the hospital and the assisting organizations so that they take a break from the hospital environment and enjoy an NFL game.

Robert has also stepped up his commitment to Ronald McDonald House this year by acting as the campaign chair for the 2013 Home Away from Home Appeal.

The 2013 Home Away from Home Appeal is an annual giving program that provides the financial foundation for the yearly operation of St. Louis’ three Ronald McDonald Houses and three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms. By making a donation, individuals, organizations and corporations throughout our community can help Ronald McDonald House Charities® of St. Louis continue to provide comfort, care and a “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children. (For more information, visit www.rmhcstl.com.)

In September, Robert lent his support to Make-A-Wish Foundation by attending their annual ‘Night of Wishes’ event. In an effort to raise money to grant wishes for terminally-ill children in the St. Louis area, he participated in a tip collecting competition with his fellow teammates. By the end of the night, Robert and the Rams helped collect enough money to grant 56 wishes.

The sack-specialist also finds a way to connect his on-field job with his off-field work. As part of the Sack Homelessness program benefitting the St. Patrick Center, each time Robert or any of his teammates sack an opposing team’s quarterback, the Rams defensive linemen, Coach Waufle and Coach McGinnis make a donation to help operate St. Patrick Center housing, employment and health programs for individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. During his offseason, he joined his fellow D-Linemen and several other teammates and showed off his paintball skills at the D-Line Champion Community Paintball Tournament. During the event, an extension of Sack Homeless, Robert led a team through a round robin paintball tournament. Proceeds helped local families from St. Patrick Center prepare for the 2013 school year by outfitting children with clothes, and providing them with new school supplies.

“Rob is one of those guys whose off the field persona doesn’t exactly match his on the field play,” said Molly Higgins, vice president of corporate communications/civic affairs, St. Louis Rams. “When he’s not playing, he’s a laid back, exceptionally kind-hearted and compassionate guy, but when he steps onto the field, he brings an intensity that makes him one of the best defensive ends in the league. Collectively, I think Rob represents the best of both worlds for St. Louis and all of our Rams fans.”
