The St. Louis Rams Community Player of the Week presented by Ameren Missouri is linebacker
With head coach Jeff Fisher at the helm for the team, it is no coincidence that the Rams’ overall improvement this season has stemmed from the defensive side of the ball. On a team that places an emphasis on defense and special teams, Hull’s ability to play both effectively makes him a valuable asset to the Rams. Since being drafted by the team in 2010, Hull has seen his playing time increase each year. He appeared in 11 games last season and has contributed in all seven of the Rams’ contests so far this year.
But Hull’s contributions extend beyond the gridiron as well. Over the past three years, he has helped the Rams in a variety of ways. Those efforts have been matched by his passion for helping out the St. Louis community.
Last week, Hull served as the chair for the 2012 Basket of Hope Golf Tournament. Basket of Hope is an organization that provides gift baskets and financial support to families with children suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Since being founded in St. Louis in 1995, the organization has spread across the country and was the featured charity during the 2012 Super Bowl. For his part, Hull was the featured guest during the dinner reception following the golf tournament.
This year, Hull’s commitment to Basket of Hope will take the form of team ambassador for the organization. Earlier in the year, he visited kids as Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to deliver Easter-themed gift baskets. As the holidays approach, Hull will repeat the effort by visiting more kids and spreading some cheer with the gift baskets he brings in tow.
During the 17th annual Celebrity Server Dinner Night of Wishes, Hull joined his teammates in serving as waiters to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Throughout the evening, Hull signed autographs and posed for pictures for “tips” from guests in attendance. Together, the Rams raised over $225,000 for Make-A-Wish through the tip donations and a live and silent auction. The money raised was enough to grant the wishes of 45 kids associated with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Hull continues to use his role as a professional athlete to help those in need, especially children. He takes part in the Rams All Community Team by donating tickets to children’s hospitals. For each Rams home game, Hull donates 20 tickets so kids can experience the fun and excitement of an NFL game.
For the past three years, the Rams have valued Hull’s play and versatility on the field. During that same time, Hull’s actions and efforts have benefitted many in the St. Louis community – especially children.
