5 Players to Watch Against the Packers

Posted Aug 14, 2014

Myles Simmons provides direction on five players to watch in Saturday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

1. Sam Bradford

The Rams’ quarterback will be back on Saturday, playing in his first live action since suffering a season-ending ACL tear Week 7 of 2013. The quarterback has looked strong in practice, and has said he doesn’t have any worries about his knee. But it will no doubt be reassuring to see him take his first hit, get back up, and fire some more passes across the field.

2. Kenny Britt

Britt has flashed plenty in practice, looking like he has developed a nice rapport with Sam. The wide receiver started last week’s game against the Saints, but wasn’t even targeted in the playing time he received with Shaun Hill under center. That should change this week with Bradford leading the offense.

3. Ray Ray Armstrong

With starting middle linebacker James Laurinaitis still a little dinged up, Jo-Lonn Dunbar has been filling in at his position, meaning Armstrong gets to see more time on the field. The young linebacker had four tackles against New Orleans as he continues to develop in defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ system.

4. Tre Mason

The third-round pick has flashed his potential in practice and figures to get some good time in against the Saints. The young running back led the team with 51 yards on the ground, but took 15 attempts to do it. He did get a 20-yard run late in the game to help his average. Mason should look better in Week 2 as he gets more used to the speed of the game.

5. Michael Sam / Ethan Westbrooks

These guys made the list last week, and they’re back here again because of their potential impact on the game. Sam made a couple of plays against the Saints, but said himself after the game that he could have done better. Westbrooks notched three tackles and a QB hit, spending time at both defensive end and tackle last week. Both will have to take a step forward in their game to increase their chances of making the team.
