The Rams return to
the Edward Jones Dome this week to take on the Indianapolis Colts for the
first time since 2005. The Rams have not hosted the Colts since a 42-17
victory in 2001. Sunday’s game will be the 43rd meeting between the teams.
The Colts hold a 22-18-2 edge over the Rams in the all-time series which
dates to 1950 when the Colts were located in Baltimore and the Rams were
located in Los Angeles.
The Colts come to
St. Louis after a bye in Week 6 while the Rams are coming off a 23-20
overtime defeat at Jacksonville. DE Leonard Little led the Rams on defense
vs. the Jaguars as he recorded six tackles (three solo), including 1.0
sack, a pass defensed and an interception. Little accounted for one of the
game’s biggest plays as he intercepted a pass by Jaguars QB David Garrard
and returned the ball 36 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 17-13
lead with 4:36 left in the game.
RB Steven Jackson
paced the Rams on offense as he produced 128 total yards (50 yards rushing
and 78 yards receiving). QB Marc Bulger threw for 213 yards and a
touchdown in his first start since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 3
vs. Green Bay (9/27).

CHANGES AT THE EDWARD JONES
DOME
Fans attending
Rams home games at the Edward Jones Dome this season will notice a few
changes to the stadium.
In 2009, the
Edward Jones Dome underwent a major refurbishment to update the
facility with an objective of improving the gameday experience for Rams
fans. To enhance the fan experience, new High-Definition video boards
have been added to both end zones including a 76-foot north end zone
board and a 35-foot board in the south end zone along with new sideline
LED boards.
In addition to
improved technology, other upgrades include a sports bar overlooking
the north end zone accessible to all ticket holders, south end zone
Premium Club, renovated Rams Club and new onfield seating.
- The Rams marched deep into
Indianapolis territory, getting to the Colts 11 but in going for it on
fourth down, Bulger threw right for Burton and was intercepted by Kelvin
Hayden of the Colts to kill the drive.
- Jackson has 22 carries for
132 yards with 10 minutes to go.
- Manning hit Austin Collie for
an 8-yard touchdown and a 35-6 lead with 3:42 to go.
- The Colts stopped the Rams
again and Chad Simpson broke a 31-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring
and put the final score at 42-6 Indianapolis.
- Indianapolis improves to 6-0
with the win. The Rams fall to 0-7.
3rd
Quarter
- The Rams and Colts traded
punts to open the third quarter before the Rams got into a groove running
the ball.
- Jackson ripped off
consecutive runs for gains of 12, 11 and 13 yards but a sack pushed the
Rams back and they had to settle for a 45-yard field goal from Brown to
trim the score to 21-6 Indianapolis.
- Jackson picked up 44 yards on
four carries on the drive.
- The Rams defense got a stop
to get it back for the offense at the St. Louis 10 with 1:39 to go in the
quarter.
- Jackson tore off a 14-yard
gain on first down to go over 100 yards for the day.
- On the next play, Colts DB
Jacob Lacey stepped in front of a deep out route intended for Keenan
Burton and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown and a 28-6 lead with a
minute to go in the quarter.
- Jackson ripped off gains of
10 and 14 to end the quarter. The Rams have it at Indianapolis’ 39.
2nd
Quarter
- The Rams opened up the second
quarter with their first defensive stop of the day.
- The teams traded punts on the
ensuing four possessions before Indianapolis took over at the Rams’ 41.
- Mostly behind the running
game, Indianapolis was able to cover that territory as Addai scored from 6
yards out to make it 21-3 Colts with 1:57 left in the half.
- The Rams were able to move
into Colts territory but couldn’t advance further.
- At the end of the first half,
the Colts lead 21-3. Rams will get the ball first to open second
half.
1st
Quarter
- The Colts won the opening
toss and elected to receive.
- Quarterback Peyton Manning
took Indianapolis 90 yards before hitting Reggie Wayne for a 6-yard
touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.
- Manning was five-of-seven for
80 yards and a score on the possession.
- The Rams responded on their
opening possession as offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur opened up the
playbook and Bulger hit Avery for a 50-yard gain on a flea flicker to
Indianapolis’ 14.
- The Rams had to settle for a
field goal, though, as a pair of incompletions and a 2-yard gain by
Jackson was all they could muster.
- Josh Brown converted from 30
yards out to make it 7-3 Indianapolis with 5:19 to go in the quarter.
- The Colts responded by
marching the field again, this time Manning hit Dallas Clark for a 27-yard
score.
- At the end of the first
quarter, it’s 14-3 Indianapolis.
Pregame
Notes
- Greetings from the Edward
Jones Dome where the Rams are set to face a huge test in the form of the
Indianapolis Colts and quarterback Peyton Manning.
- During the pregame, the Rams
will honor Hall of Fame defensive lineman Jack Youngblood with an
introduction and a highlight video.
- The Rams will have safety
James Butler back in the starting lineup today after an absence caused by
a knee injury.
- Rookie Jason Smith is
expected to work in a rotation with Alex Barron and Adam Goldberg. Smith
very possibly could get his first playing time at left tackle.
- Inactives for the Rams today
include third quarterback Keith Null, guard Roger Allen III, tackle Phil
Trautwein, guard John Greco, receiver Brandon Gibson, receiver Ruvell
Martin, defensive end James Hall and cornerback Justin King.
- Hall is dealing with swelling
in his groin and the Rams do not want to push his return. Chris Long will
start and Victor Adeyanju will be active for the first time this season.
-
Linebacker K.C. Asiodu will get his first NFL experience, working
on special teams.
- As expected Paris Lenon will
start at weakside linebacker with Larry Grant making his first career
start on the strong side.
- The Colts will indeed have
safety Bob Sanders as he makes his return to the lineup from a knee
injury.
