By Nick Wagoner
Senior Writer |
4th Quarter
- The Rams
managed the ball and the clock with a variety of runs and short passes as
Jackson put them in field goal position. Brown connected from 35 yards out
to make it 34-7 with 10:33 to go in the game.
- Atogwe
ended any hopes Dallas had of staging a miraculous rally with his second
interception of the game.
- The Rams
got a 16-yard completion to Minor to put them back into scoring position.
- But
Jackson appeared to suffer an injury as he limped to the locker room at
the end of the game.
- He
finished his day with 25 carries for 160 yards and three touchdowns.
- The Rams
couldn’t punch that one into the end zone either but got a 48-yard attempt
from Brown. Brown took a direct snap and pooched a punt to the Dallas 10
so as not to run up the score.
- The
Cowboys took over there.
- The Rams
continued to suffer late game injuries as Tinoisamoa suffered an injury on
the first play of Dallas’ possession. He walked off on his own and
returned to the game.
- Dallas
began to march into Rams’ territory against a soft pass defense. Martellus
Bennett caught a 33-yard pass to jumpstart the drive.
- Bennett
followed that with a 34-yard touchdown catch to trim the deficit to 34-14
with 1:50 to play.
- The Rams
got it back and ran out the clock to preserve a dominating 34-14
win. |
3rd Quarter
- The Rams
opened the half with a 20-yard completion to Holt but a sack ended the
drive and the Rams were forced to punt.
- On the
punt, Derek Stanley took a helmet to helmet blow and did not move for a
couple of minutes. Finally, he was able to walk off on his own power. He’s
not likely to return.
- The
Cowboys had good field position at the St. Louis 44 but a pair of false
start penalties, including one that nullified a fourth-and-1 conversion
forced Dallas into a 46-yard field goal attempt from Nick Folk. That kick
sailed wide right and the Rams took over at their 36 with 9:33 to go in
the third quarter.
- The Rams
used that momentum to go 63 yards in two plays as Jackson broke a 56-yard
touchdown run off the right side. That score gave Jackson three touchdowns
on the day and a 31-7 lead with 8:55 to go.
- Dallas
moved quickly into Rams territory, but the defense tightened up again.
Johnson fired right intended for Witten but Pisa Tinoisamoa deflected the
ball in the air and Oshiomogho Atogwe was in the right place at the right
time as usual. He grabbed the interception and the Rams took over and
moved into Dallas territory.
- At the
end of the third quarter, the Rams have the ball and a 31-7
lead. |
2nd Quarter
- The Rams
couldn’t convert that into points though as a pair of sacks knocked the
Rams back and they had to settle for a 54-yard field goal try from Brown.
The kick sailed wide right but had the distance and Dallas took over at
its 44.
- The Rams
defense responded by getting a quick three and out, taking over at their
13 with 13:26 to go in the half.
- After a
holding penalty, the Rams had third-and-15 and just missed another big
play as Bulger just missed Avery deep down the right sideline for what
would have been a sure touchdown. Surprisingly, Bulger actually overthrew
it by a little though Avery slowed a bit to adjust to the ball.
- A punt
back to Dallas gave it the ball at its 42.
- Dallas
linebacker Bradie James suffered a hyperextended elbow and his return is
questionable.
- The Rams defense tightened up and a third-down sack from Leonard Little got the defense off the field with no damage.
- Rams DT
Adam Carriker suffered a left ankle injury on the first play of that
possession. He’s having X rays and his return is questionable.
- St.
Louis took over at its 20 after a botched attempt to pin the Rams deep in
their territory.
- On
third-and-11, Bulger stood in and delivered a strike to Hall for a 20-yard
gain and a first down. The Rams proceeded to get a 13-yard gain from
Travis Minor and convert another third down when Jackson blasted up the
middle for 2 yards on third-and-1.
- The Rams
were unable to finish the drive with a touchdown but did get points as
Brown hit from 54 yards out to give them a 24-7 lead with 1:47 to go in
the half.
- X rays
on Carriker’s ankle were negative. His return remains questionable.
- Brown
made an error on the ensuing kick as it went out of bound to give Dallas
the ball at the 40.
- Dallas
converted a third-and-10 with a 15-yard completion to Jason Witten.
- The Rams
got the stop though and went to the locker room with a 24-7
lead. |
1st Quarter
- The Rams
won the toss and deferred, giving Dallas the ball first. The Cowboys took
over at their 26 after a 27-yard return from Miles Austin.
- After a
couple of plays set up a third-and-7, the Cowboys picked up the blitz and
Johnson found Terrell Owens for a 19-yard gain. Johnson hit Patrick
Crayton for 10 yards and Marion Barber broke off a 35-yard jaunt up the
middle.
- Barber
punched it in from 1 yard out three plays later for a quick 7-0 lead for
the Cowboys.
- The Rams
came back with perhaps their most impressive answer of the season, quickly
marching down the field after the Dallas touchdown.
- On four
plays with one penalty, the Rams marched 62 yards for a game-tying
touchdown. The lightning was provided by speedy rookie Donnie Avery, who
ran a deep go route over the middle as Marc Bulger hit him in stride for a
relatively easy 42-yard touchdown. The extra point made it 7-7 with just
under eight minutes to go.
- That
drive was the quickest of the season for the Rams as they covered the 62
yards in just 1:51.
- The Rams
seized the momentum, getting a three and out highlighted by an aborted
play that lost Dallas 15 yards and forced a fourth-and-24 punt. New Dallas
punter Sam Paulescu shanked the kick just 36 yards and the Rams took
possession at the Dallas 44.
- The Rams
quickly got a 20-yard completion to Torry Holt. On second-and-6, Bulger
hit Avery for what appeared to be a 21-yard touchdown but an illegal shift
brought it back.
- Unfazed,
the Rams quickly got an 18-yard run from Steven Jackson and he punched it
in from 8 yards out on the next play for a 14-7 lead with 4:34 to go in
the quarter.
- The
momentum continued to swing in the direction of St. Louis as on second
down Johnson fired to the left but Clifton Ryan got a paw on it and Will
Witherspoon made a diving interception at Dallas’ 17.
- The Rams
rode Jackson into the end zone as he covered 16 of those yards and capped
it with a dive from a yard out for a 21-7 lead with about two minutes to
go.
- On
third-and-9 of the ensuing possession, the Rams got another big play.
Johnson hit Barber for a gain of 24 yards but he was chased down by
Leonard Little who jarred the ball loose from behind. Corey Chavous
recovered at Dallas’ 34 and the Rams have the ball and a 21-7 lead at the
end of the quarter. |

Notes
-
Greetings from the Edward Jones Dome where the Rams will look to have
their first full-fledged winning streak if they can beat Dallas today.
That would make two wins in a row and make St. Louis 2-0 under new coach
Jim Haslett.
- The big
news here concerns the two most important questionable players on the two
teams’ respective injury reports.
- Dallas
quarterback Tony Romo is active and will be available despite his broken
pinkie but he will not start. Veteran Brad Johnson will get the call.
Johnson doesn’t have the improvisational skills of Romo but if he gets
time to throw, he has the weapons and the moxie to make big plays in the
passing game. Expect Haslett to dial up some exotic blitzes to force
Johnson to get rid of the ball faster than he’d like.
- For the
Rams, left tackle Orlando Pace is inactive as expected. Pace is replaced
by Adam Goldberg in the starting lineup. Expect the Rams to give Goldberg
plenty of help blocking DeMarcus Ware on the left side.
- The rest
of the inactives for the Rams are running back Antonio Pittman, third
quarterback Brock Berlin, receivers Drew Bennett, Eddie Kennison and Dane
Looker, cornerback Tye Hill and guard Roy Schuening.
- The
inactives for Dallas are QB Brooks Bollinger, safety Pat Watkins, running
back Felix Jones, cornerback Terence Newman, guard Kyle Kosier, guard Joe
Berger, tackle Doug Free and linebacker Anthony Spencer.
- Cory
Proctor starts for Kosier and Mike Jenkins starts for Newman. Roy Williams
the safety will be back in the lineup this week.
- Be sure
to check in after every quarter for updates on the game including scoring
breakdowns and injury
updates. |
