4th Quarter
- Things
went awry on the first play of the final quarter as Green threw an
interception to Jabari Greer who returned it 33 yards for a touchdown and
Buffalo’s first lead of the day.
- The
extra point made it 20-14 Buffalo with 14:48 to go.
- The Rams
couldn’t respond on their drive, going three and out again.
- Buffalo
made St. Louis pay with an impressive 81 yard drive that ended with a
39-yard touchdown pass to Evans. The 2-point conversion was successful and
Buffalo grabbed a 28-14 lead with 10:24 to play.
- The Rams were unable to get a drive going after a 22-yard completion to McMichael and Buffalo took over on downs at the St. Louis 45.
- The Bills tacked on another field goal this time
from 45 yards out to make it 31-14 Buffalo with 6:21 to go. The Bills have
now scored 18 unanswered points.
- Green
hit Dane Looker for a long gain down the seam where he was blasted by
Buffalo cornerback Leodis McKelvin. Looker lost the ball and McKelvin
recovered. Looker was shaken up on the play. He walked off on his own
power but did not return.
- The Rams
put together a drive after getting a stop late in the game on the strength
of a 53-yard catch and run from Jackson.
- That
drive stalled at Buffalo’s 15 though and the Bills took knees to end it.
Buffalo improves to 4-0 and the Rams fall to 0-4 with the 31-14
final. |
3rd Quarter
- The
Bills got the ball first to open the half and wasted no time piecing
together a 76-yard drive for a touchdown.
- Most of
the damage was done on the ground and Fred Jackson scored from 22 yards
out. The extra point made it 14-13 Rams with 9:27 to go in the quarter.
- The Rams
opened their first possession of the half at their 25 and promptly put
together an answer. A 22-yard strike to Holt followed by a 14-yarder to
him and a 9-yard completion to Jackson.
- A
13-yard sack derailed the drive though and Josh Brown missed wide right
fro m 51 yards to give Buffalo possession at its 41 with 3:35 to go in the
quarter.
- The Rams
got a stop though and have the ball at their 11 on second-and-12 at the
end of the quarter. The Rams lead 14-13. |
2nd Quarter
- After
using the pass to get deep in Buffalo territory, the Rams turned the ball
over to Jackson. Jackson carried three consecutive times with the biggest
a 29-yard touchdown run that made it 14-6 Rams with 13:41 to go in the
half.
- That
drive was 89 yards and last four minutes, 25 seconds, the longest drive of
the season for the Rams.
- The
teams traded three and outs on the ensuing possessions as Leonard Little
recorded his first sack of the season on the Bills’ third down play.
- The
teams continued to trade punts before the Rams defense made another big
play, this time getting its first takeaway of the season with about two
and a half minutes to go.
- Under
pressure, Edwards threw deep but over the head of his intended receiver
and in to the waiting arms of Oshiomogho Atogwe. Atogwe grabbed it and
returned it 19 yards to give the Rams the ball at Buffalo’s 49 with 2:28
to go in the half.
- The Rams
couldn’t pick up a first down after gaining 7 on the first two plays. On
fourth down, they went for it and Randy McMichael couldn’t handle a short
pass and Buffalo took over at its 42 on downs.
- The
Bills completed a quick 8-yard pass but a tripping penalty nullified a
long Lynch run to bring up third-and-9 from the 43. The Rams got another
sack, this time from James Hall and Manning Jr. for a loss of 9 to force
another Buffalo punt with 55 seconds to go in the quarter.
- At the
end of the first half, the Rams lead 14-6. |
1st Quarter
- The Rams
won the toss and elected to receive. And they wasted no time trying to get
Green and the offense ignited, throwing a deep pass intended for Avery
that was broken up by Terrence McGee on the first play of the game.
- After a
Steven Jackson gain of 7, the Rams failed to convert on third down and had
to punt.
- Buffalo
struck quick on its own as Trent Edwards hit Lee Evans for a gain of 49
yards on the first play of the Bills’ possession.
- A
holding penalty slowed the drive, though, and they had to settle for a
45-yard field goal from kicker Rian Lindell and a 3-0 lead.
- The Rams
responded with their quickest, most impressive drive of the season.
Jackson picked up a first down on three carries before Green hit Torry
Holt for a gain of 19. On the next play, lightning struck in the form of
Avery. Avery took a pitch out of the backfield for a 37-yard touchdown
jaunt down the left sideline. He broke out a little touchdown dance and
gave the Rams their first lead of the season at 7-3.
- The Rams
defense took a cue from the offensive momentum and got a quick three and
out for a punt that went for a touchback.
- The offense couldn’t get it going again, going three and out. A 44-yard punt return gave Buffalo the ball to start at the Rams’ 29.
- Rams cornerback Tye Hill
suffered a right knee sprain and has been replaced by Ricky Manning Jr.
Hill’s return is questionable.
- The
defense held its ground, as Ron Bartell provided blanket coverage and
Chris Long got his second sack of the season to hold Buffalo to Lindell’s
35-yard field goal to make it 7-6 with 3:06 to go in the quarter.
- The Rams
took over at their 11 and began piecing together a nice drive with a
10-yard strike to Holt, a 15-yarder to Avery and a 10-yard end around by
Dante Hall.
- At the
end of the first quarter the Rams have the ball at Buffalo’s 39 with a
first-and-5 and a 7-6 lead. |
Pregame
Notes
- Greetings from the Edward Jones Dome where
the Rams and Bills are ready to square off at 3:05 today.
- It’s been a wild week for the Rams and
there’s no doubt that they are ready to get on the field and put the
distractions aside for one day at least. That’s what they’ll need to do to
get a win.
- No surprises for the Rams on the inactive
list. Brock Berlin is the third quarterback as usual. RB Antonio Pittman,
WR Keenan Burton, WR Drew Bennett, S Brannon Condren, G Roy Schuening, G
John Greco and DE Eric Moore are inactive.
- As expected, Trent Green will start at
quarterback. Donnie Avery is starting at receiver.
- On defense, Victor Adeyanju is starting
opposite Chris Long with Clifton Ryan starting at nose tackle and Adam
Carriker at the three technique.
-
For the Bills, WR Roscoe Parrish and FB Darian Barnes are the only
inactives of note. Derek Schouman replaces Barnes in the starting
lineup.
