The Last
Time
Edward Jones Dome, November 25, 2007
(65,423) - The Rams returned to the Edward Jones Dome for the first time in a
month to take on NFC West rival Seattle, falling to the Seahawks by a final
score of 24-19. WR Isaac Bruce’s first quarter touchdown catch moved him past
Art Powell for 17th place on the NFL’s all time receiving touchdowns list. K
Jeff Wilkins converted two extra point attempts, moving past Mark Mosley for
21st place on the NFL’s all-time extra points list. The Rams got off to a fast
start defensively, with LB Will Witherspoon sacking Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck
on both the second and third plays of the game, forcing a three-andout by the
Seahawks. After P Donnie Jones pinned the Seahawks on their own 2-yard line with
a 41-yard punt following the Rams first possession, rookie DL Adam
Carriker
brought down Seattle RB Maurice Morris in the end zone for a safety,
giving the Rams an early 2-0 lead and their first safety since 2005. On the next
play from scrimmage, RB Steven Jackson broke the longest run of his career,
going 53 yards for the score and putting the Rams on top 9-0. After trading
touchdown strikes with Seattle, Wilkins connected on his only field goal attempt
of the game, extending the
Rams lead to 12 points midway through the second
quarter. With Seattle threatening in the red zone late in the first half, S O.J.
Atogwe recorded his fourth interception of the year to regain possession for the
Rams. After the half, a pair of Seahawk touchdowns and a Josh Brown field goal
put Seattle on top by five, 24-19. With just 30 seconds remaining, the Seahawks
were able to stop the Rams on fourth and
goal from the 1-yard line, holding on
for victory.

SEATTLE
–
Fourth
Quarter
-
The Seahawks finished off a punishing drive, giving the ball to
Duckett time and again as they marched 86 yards on 15 plays as Duckett bulled in
from 1 yard out to give the Seahawks a 34-13 lead with 8:39 to go.
-
Bulger threw an interception three plays into the next drive and
Seattle took over at the Rams’ 33
with 7:11 to go.
-
Mare converted a 38-yard field goal with 4:46 left to make it 37-13.
-
That did it for the scoring as Seattle grabbed its first win of the year to
improve to 1-2. The Rams are now 0-3 heading home to play undefeated
Buffalo next week.
Third
Quarter
-
The Rams pieced together a nice drive to open the half, making a
couple of big plays to get into Seattle
territory and venture into the red zone for the second
time this season.
-
A swing pass to Jackson
went for 50 yards and after a penalty moved the Rams back
to the 21, Bulger hit Dane Looker down the left side for a 21-yard touchdown to
cut the deficit to 27-13.
-
The Rams defense got a stop but had to take over at the 5 after an
unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Dante Hall nullified what would have been a
touchback.
-
The Rams started a drive but failed to convert a third and 1 after
picking up a first down. After a punt pinned Seattle
at the 13, the Rams seemingly had a three and out but Ron
Bartell was penalized for illegal contact, extending the drive.
-
At the end of the third quarter, Seattle
leads 27-13.
Second Quarter
-
The Rams went three and out again before catching a break and
getting their first takeaway of the season as Bumpus dropped a towering Donnie
Jones punt and Garry Stills recovered at
Seattle’s 23.
-
With a trip to the red zone only a few yards away, the Rams netted
negative-2 yards on three plays and had to settle for a 44-yard field goal from
Josh Brown. That kick made it 17-3
Seattle with 13:26 left in the half.
-
Seattle again put together a long drive, moving 83 yards on 11
plays before T.J. Duckett burst in from 4 yards out to take a 24-3 lead with
8:39 in the half.
-
The Rams put together one of their better drives of the season on
the ensuing possession, moving into the red zone for the first time this season
with about 4:30 to go in the half.
-
But the Rams couldn’t put it in the end zone, settling for a
29-yard field goal from Brown with 2:52 left to make it 24-6
Seattle.
-
The Rams quickly got their first three and out as
Seattle ran the ball three times,
netting 5 yards. They took over at their 26 with under two minutes to go.
-
The offense went three and out again and
Seattle took over and quickly moved
deep into Rams territory on a 32-yard run by Jones to give them first and 10 at
the Rams’ 20 with eight seconds left.
- Olindo
Mare booted a 37-yard field goal for a 27-6 halftime lead.
First Quarter
- The
Seahawks got the ball first and wasted little time hitting open receivers to
move deep into Rams territory. A 19-yard completion to Bumpus and a 15-yarder to
McMullen got
Seattle as deep as the Rams’ 10 on
the opening drive.
- The
defense tightened on the strength of a pass breakup in the end zone by
linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa. The Seahawks were forced to settle for a 28-yard
field goal from Olindo Mare to take a 3-0 lead with 11:19 to go in the
quarter.
- The Rams got the ball at their 20 for their opening possession and
a couple of quick plays netted a first down. But things went awry on the third
play as Julian Peterson beat fullback Dan Kreider off the edge, sacking Bulger,
knocking the ball loose and recovering it at the Rams’ 24.
-
Seattle scored
six plays later on a 10-yard touchdown strike from Hasselbeck to Bumpus. The
extra point made it 10-0 with
6:44 to go
in the quarter.
- The
Rams immediately went three and out and
Seattle
took over at its 35.
- The
Seahawks again wasted no time scoring points, moving the 65 yards in almost no
time with a 22-yard completion to Carlson and a 29-yard touchdown run from Jones
to cap the drive. Myriad Rams missed tackles on the play and
Seattle
went up 17-0 with about a minute left in the quarter.
- At the end of one quarter,
Seattle
leads 17-0.
Pregame Notes
-
Greetings from Qwest Field where, surprise, it’s cloudy and
overcast. The game, as usual, is a sell out.
-
Kicker Josh Brown has already received his first round of boos
from the bitter and spurned “12th Man” here
today. It’s only likely to get worse as the game begins.
-
No real surprises on the inactive list for the Rams. The following
players are down today: WR Keenan Burton, RB Brian Leonard, S Brannon Condren, G
Jacob Bell, G Roy Schuening, WR Drew Bennett and DE Leonard Little.
-
Brock
Berlin is the third quarterback.
-
Chris Long will start at left defensive end in place of Little
with James Hall on the right side.
-
Ron Bartell is starting at left cornerback in place of Tye Hill as
Fakhir Brown regains his position on the right side.
-
Adam Goldberg starts for the second straight week in place of
Bell
.
-
For the Seahawks, the list of inactive receivers is far lengthier.
Koren Robinson joins Deion Branch and Bobby Engram as inactives. That leaves
Seattle
with just Courtney Taylor and Billy McMullen as the
starters. Keary Colbert and Michael Bumpus are the only other wide outs
available.
-
Keep an eye on tight end John Carlson, who will likely be
quarterback Matt Hasselbeck’s top target.
-
RB Maurice Morris is the only other inactive of note for
Seattle
but that comes as no surprise considering he didn’t practice this
week.
