Fourth
Quarter
- The
Rams held the Giants to open the fourth quarter, as a sack by Adeyanju combined
with a holding penalty forced New
York to punt.
- The
Rams took over at their 16 and methodically drove to New
York’s 45 on the strength of some quick strike passes.
-
Finally, with about 11 minutes to go, someone made a play.
It was no surprise that it was Torry Holt, who was knocked to the ground on a
deep pass down the middle of the field. But the always aware Holt reached up and
pulled in the deflected ball and held on for the Rams’ first touchdown of the
season to cut it to 20-13 with 10:46
to go.
- The
Giants wasted no time coming up with an answer though as Manning steered the
offense down the field for a response. Manning hit Ahmad Bradshaw in the right
flat and Bradshaw did the rest of the work for an 18-yard touchdown to make it
27-13 with 7:18 to play.
-
Manning now has three touchdown passes on the game.
- The
Rams got the ball back and picked up a first down on fourth and 6 but it
mattered not as Bulger was intercepted for the first time throwing into the left
flat. Justin Tuck intercepted the pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown
and a commanding 34-13 lead.
-
Adding insult to injury, Bradshaw broke a 31-yard touchdown run
for a 41-13 lead and final margin.
Third Quarter
- The
Rams opened the second half by trying to get Bulger out of the pocket. He rolled
out and hit Randy McMichael for 14 yards on the first play and rolled to the
other side for an incompletion intended for Keenan Burton.
- The
drive stalled when Dante Hall dropped a potential first down completion on
third-and-6. Jones came through with another terrific punt, pinning the Giants
at their 3.
- The
Giants weren’t fazed by the field position, though, moving deep into Rams
territory on the strength of their running game.
-
Jacobs ripped off a gain of 30 and Ward picked up 14. A
pass to Burress for 16 yards set up a first down at the Rams’ 10.
-
Burress fumbled on the original ruling on the play but a
challenge overturned that call.
- One
play later, Manning hit Toomer for a 10-yard touchdown and a 20-6 lead with
8:48 left in the third quarter.
-
That did it for the scoring in the quarter as the Giants
lead 20-6.
Second
Quarter
- The Rams failed to convert the third down again and had to
settle for a 54-yard field goal attempt by Josh Brown. Brown boomed the kick
through the uprights to cut the deficit to 7-3 with 14:13 to go in the half.
- The
Giants opened the ensuing possession at their 20 and moved to the Rams’ 40 on a
14-yard and 18-yard completion to Amani Toomer.
- The
Rams tightened up again enough to hold the Giants to a 39-yard field goal from
John Carney. That kick made it through the uprights to make it 10-3
New York with 8:14 to go in the half.
- The
Rams went three and out and got a 63-yard punt from Donnie Jones to force
New York
to start at its 24.
- On
third down, rookie Chris Long made his presence felt, bulling off the right side
for a sack and a loss of 11 to force a punt.
- The
Rams got a huge third down conversion with 17 yards to go to open the drive as
Jackson
caught a dump off from
Bulger and took it 22 yards for a first down.
- But
a sack knocked the Rams back 9 yards and forced them to settle for another
54-yard attempt from Brown. He connected again to cut it to 10-6 Giants with
1:55 to go.
- The
Giants now have four sacks in the first half as the Rams continue to struggle to
find ways to protect Bulger.
-
New York
started its next drive from its 32.
- The
Giants moved quickly into
St. Louis
territory on a couple of plays. Derrick Ward got most of the action, ripping off
runs of 9 and 11 yards for a first down at the Rams’ 37.
-
Hixon caught a 19 yard pass to put the ball at
St. Louis
’ 18. A holding penalty
pushed the Giants back 10 yards before another completion got it back to the
Rams’ 17.
-
The Rams held the Giants to a
32-yard field goal attempt. Carney converted again to make it 13-6 at the
half.
First
Quarter
- The
Giants won the toss and elected to receive. After one first down completion to
Plaxico Burress, the Rams defense tightened and got off the field.
- The
Rams were pinned at their 14 to open their first possession. A pair of Steven
Jackson runs netted 5 yards and a third down incompletion led to a three and out
and a punt.
- For
the record,
Jackson
’s second carry
appeared open for a big gain but he didn’t cut it up and was dropped for a gain
of 2.
-
Donnie Jones showed no ill effects with a booming first
punt angled to the sideline that forced the Giants to open their second drive at
their 36.
- The
Giants had more success this time around as they fed Brandon Jacobs the ball
repeatedly. While Jacobs didn’t break any long runs, it did set up play action
later on the drive.
- On
the seventh play of the possession, Manning faked the handoff to Jacobs and
Burress came open deep down the middle for a 33-yard touchdown. Tye Hill missed
on a jam at the line of scrimmage and Burress juked past Oshiomogho Atogwe for
the score.
- The
Rams got it going on their next possession as Jackson
just missed an opportunity for a touchdown on a 15-yard
run off left tackle. Jackson
stumbled and fell with nothing but green in front of him.
-
But the Rams are driving with a
third-and-2 at
New York
’s 32 at
the end of the quarter. The Rams trail the Giants 7-0 at the end of one.
Pre
Game Notes
-
Greetings from the Edward Jones Dome where the Rams and Giants are
scheduled for anoon
kickoff.
-
Emotions will run high today as the team honors late honor Georgia
Frontiere with a variety of events. The Rams would like nothing more than to put
on a strong performance in her memory and to bounce back from last week’s dismal
effort in Philadelphia
.
-
There were a few small surprises in the inactives for the Rams on
Sunday morning. Rookie receiver Donnie Avery is active for the first time in his
young career with veteran Eddie Kennison and Drew Bennett down.
-
Other inactives for the Rams include Brock
Berlin
(third quarterback),
running back Brian Leonard, safety Brannon Condren, guard Jacob Bell, guard Roy
Scheuning and defensive end Leonard Little.
-
As expected, Adam Goldberg replaces
Bell
at left guard. Rookie John Greco will also be active for
the first time as a backup at guard and tackle. Should anything happen to one of
the starting tackles, though; it’s safe to expect that Goldberg would slide
outside with Greco in at guard. Brett Romberg is also available as a center or
guard.
-
James Hall will start for Little at end. But Hall will line up on
the left side with Chris Long on the right side to start. That duo will move
around plenty in the game. Eric Moore is active this week and figures into the
rotation behind Victor Adeyanju.
-
The only inactive of note for the Giants is cornerback/returner
R.W. McQuarters who is out with a leg injury. Domenik Hixon replaces him on
returns.
