Recently, the St. Louis Rams rounded up eager
female sports fans for Football University, a unique event presented by
Barnes-Jewish and Washington University Orthopedics- Team physicians for the St.
Louis Rams. Designed to help women increase their football knowledge with
instruction from the pros, guests watched, learned and laughed as co-hosts Josh
Brown and former Ram Will Witherspoon provided instruction and commentary on
everything from preparing for game day to general football terminology.
With guidance from head team physician, Dr. Matt Matava and head athletic
trainer, Jim Anderson, guests selected from the audience helped tape Will’s
ankles and demonstrated medical preventative techniques, similar to how players
prepare for practice and game day. Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo also stopped by to
visit with the guest.
Executive Vice President of Football
Operations/Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff provided insight on managing the
NFL salary cap. Rams players Donnie Jones, Mike Karney, Donnie Avery, Samkon
Gado, LaJuan Ramsey, and former Ram Derek Stanley joined Josh and Will on stage
for a question and answer panel session, in which guests could ask the group or
specific players their own personal questions. Following the event, players
signed autographs and mingled with fans. Once again, this year’s event was
a sell out, with over 650 Rams fans in attendance. A portion of the
proceeds benefitted United Way. With a ticket purchase to Football University,
all attendees received a Rams tote bag and two complementary tickets,
compliments of Barnes-Jewish and Washington University Orthopedics, to the home
game on October 11 in which the St. Louis Rams took on the
Vikings.
