The receiving corps took a pair of hits Monday afternoon when Rams coach Jim Haslett announced that Drew Bennett and Dante Hall will be placed on injured reserve as early as Tuesday morning.

Bennett suffered a foot injury in the season opener against Philadelphia on Sept. 7 and hasn’t played since.

That broken foot has been healing in recent weeks but it hasn’t healed to the point where Bennett was able to have any kind of set timeframe on his return.

Bennett did some running in practice last week but with the emergence of the likes of Donnie Avery, Derek Stanley and Keenan Burton, it’s unclear what his role would have been on return anyway.

In the second year of a long term contract, Bennett had one catch for 4 yards.

“Bennett is just not healing,” Haslett said. “Last week he worked. He had pain this week and we thought the best thing to do was just set him down and get him healthy. I don’t know how long it’s going to take. We have waited two months now and it could take another two months. I really don’t know. It could take four weeks; it could take another eight weeks. We can’t wait. We need to make sure we have some healthy bodies playing.”

Hall suffered an ankle sprain in the third quarter similar to the high ankle sprains that plagued him in 2007.

Haslett said that injury is about a six-week injury and that would give him at best two games upon his return.

For the season, Hall had 12 catches for 105 yards.

“It’s a pretty bad injury and we just thought that was the best thing right now,” Haslett said.

Stanley will take over the punt and kick return duties for Hall much like he did in the closing stages of Sunday’s loss to Arizona.

Looker and Burton will be Stanley’s primary backups in the return game.

Haslett said the replacements on the roster for Bennett and Hall have yet to be identified but logic says running backs, linebacker and defensive line could be potential pickups.

Rookie linebacker David Vobora will likely be called up to fill one of the roster spots because starting strong side linebacker Chris Draft will miss a few weeks because of a foot fracture.
