![]() King Agrees to Deal
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 Text Size Text Size By Nick Wagoner Senior Writer The Rams moved one step closer to having their entire draft class in training camp on time Wednesday when they agreed to a three-year deal with fourth round cornerback Justin King. King is widely considered to be the potential diamond in the rough of the team’s 2008 draft class. After leaving college a year early, King was projected by some to go as high as the late first round. But King lasted until the fourth and the Rams quickly scooped him up. “I think corner is a position that you really need to put yourself in good position with,” coach Scott Linehan said after drafting King. “You have got to have four. You really have to feel good about having four corners going into each game. Corners are a commodity.” At 5’10, 192 pounds with speed in the 4.3-4.4 range in the 40-yard dash, King will be expected to compete right away in the secondary, particularly in nickel packages. He also will be asked to work on special teams, perhaps even getting an opportunity as a returner such as he did at times during the team’s May minicamp. With King in the fold, the Rams have just one remaining unsigned draft pick, second round choice Donnie Avery.
