-Joined the Rams as assistant head coach/linebackers in 2006 as
part of head coach Scott Linehan’s staff.
-Has over a quarter
century of NFL coaching experience.
-Prior to joining the Rams, he spent 10 seasons with the New
Orleans Saints, last serving as the defensive coordinator
(2002-2005).
-He also served as the Saints’ assistant head coach/secondary
coach (2000-2001, 1998), the assistant head coach/linebackers coach (1996-1997,
1999) and served as the head coach for eight games (1996).
-Coached under Bill Belichick with the Cleveland Browns serving as defensive
coordinator/linebackers coach (1995) and secondary coach (1994).
-Broke into the NFL with the Baltimore Colts, accompanying the
team during the move to Indianapolis in 1984.
-Served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during 12
seasons with the Colts (1982-1993), also serving as head coach for 11 games
(1991).
-Spent one year as the linebackers coach of the Hamilton Tiger
Cats of the Canadian Football League (1981).
-Served as the head coach of his alma mater, Northwestern, for
three seasons (1978-1980).
-Also served as the defensive backfield coach (1969-1972) and
broke into coaching as a graduate assistant with Northwestern (1968).
-Played quarterback and defensive back for the Northwestern
Wildcats while earning a dual degree in physical education and history, later
adding a master’s degree in education.
-A native of Taylorville, Illinois, his father, the late Joe
Venturi, is enshrined in the Illinois High School Football Coaches’ Hall of
Fame.
-He is married to Cheri and has two children, daughter Marin and
son Jason, and two grandchildren, grandson Aiden and granddaughter
Ava.
