MATSKO:
“We are excited about having Claude join our team, he is about 6’2
and 341 lbs, and I think he is a little less than that now. John and I
both were looking at our notes upstairs, the guy is big and strong, has power
and brut force. Just going down my list, he is nasty as an anchor, he can
pull and run and hit a guy in spaces. He is going to be a good fit to our
football team. He has great determination, and he is a very unselfish guy
in the fact that he has played guard for two or three years to start out at New
Mexico, and his senior year, they asked him to play tackle. He played the
strong tackle for them. They do a lot of tackle traps and a lot of tackle
pulling over there. You are going to like this kid, he is going
to be
a good fit for us.“
BENTON:
“He is just big wide body, a stout guy, real powerful blocker, and
he pulls well. I think he will be a great fit for us.”
ON NEW MEXICO’S OFFENSIVE LINE STYLE:
“They run a lot of zone scheme
stuff, and they run some option out there quite a bit. They did run some
power, I remember him pulling on the power, and doing some tackle pulls, those
types of things.
Pretty diverse.”
MATSKO ON NEW MEXICO’S OFFENSIVE LINE STYLE:
“They are wide open in that
league. They are running that in Florida and they have a lot of different
pass protections, so that is a thing that is attractive also with this young
man. Wilbert Montgomery went out there to the work out and he fell in love
with this kid. John and I did a lot of research on his tapes, as did the
scouts. We are very high on him, especially at the guard position.
We think a lot of
this kid.”
MATSKO ON NEW OFFENISIVE LINE PLAYERS:
“We are always in the process of
developing guys, you always have develop young guys. We meet with our guys
at 7:30 in the morning on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and we take
them out to practice 20 minutes early. We still have some young guys, Andy
McCollum and Adam
Timmerman are young guys. In their minds they are
young guys.”
MATSKO ON MAKING OFFENSIVE LINE PICKS EARLY IN THE DRAFT:
“It is very
exciting, and we are excited about the guys that we have with Barron, Incognito,
and Claude
Terrell.”
MATSKO ON LINEMEN PLAYING DOUBLE DUTY:
“We dress seven linemen, which
seems to be the trend in the National Football League. When I first
started in the league we were dressing eight guys, which was a luxury. Now
we are down to seven because they want to dress more defensive backs for all the
wide receivers we see on offense. Your two backup guys have to be a tackle
and a guard, and a guys has got to be a guard and a center, they
have to be
able to play both sides.”
