(On if he’s ready to start another streak)
“We’re playing against a team
that has played extremely well coming off of their bye week, and they’re playing
at home. I think the Rams are a real good football team. We’re just
trying to get ready to deal with all the problems they present, which are
numerous. That’s kind of where we are at this week.”
(On if he thinks that Rams have changed offensively since the Super Bowl in
’01)
“From what I’ve seen offensively, the Rams are basically the same in
terms of their overall philosophy and core plays. But I think it’s been
modified. I think Mike has done a great job of utilizing his talent, and
putting them in positions that make them hard to defend. You’ve got a lot
of new guys like (Steven) Jackson, (Shaun) McDonald, (Kevin) Curtis, the tight
end, I’m not even going to try and pronounce his last name (Brandon
Manumaleuna), and (Joey) Goodspeed. Guys like that, that have skills and
have a skill set that are complimentary to their other players
offensively. Mike puts them in tough spots, and does things formation wise
and with the plays, that are hard to defend, and he does a good job of it.
They are very explosive, we played Seattle a couple of weeks ago, and that game
and that game really said it all. They (Rams) where down by 17 with four
minutes to go in the game, and they don’t have any problem tying it up, and
winning in overtime. They scored 24 points in six minutes or
whatever. It’s a very explosive offense, and Mike has done a great job of
developing it, and utilizing the different people. The Rams are always a
team, they have been for the last three years, in the offseason that we’ve
always spent a lot of time studying, even though we weren’t playing them.
We studied what they did offensively to try to find ways to take the things that
they do so well, and incorporate them in our system or utilize the techniques
and teach our players off of basically their training tape.”
(On incorporating the Rams offense into their own
offense)
“Absolutely. Don’t get me wrong, we’re not the Rams, not even
close. The things that we do, some techniques, sometimes formationing,
ideas on plays, things like that, we’ve definitely studied a lot of what they’ve
done, and used some of it as it applies to what we do.”
(On the Patriots having discipline and mental toughness)
“We just try to
prepare for our opponent that week, and do the best we can to be ready for them
and the situations that could come up in the game, and then try to execute them
on Sunday. It’s up to the players to understand what we’re trying to
do. They’re the ones that go out there and make the plays.”
(On being so reluctant to talk about the streak)
“We talk about the game
and the team that we’re going to play. We’re not big on talking about what
happened last year or two years ago or eight years ago, I don’t think it’s too
relevant. The only thing that’s relevant right now is how the Rams and the
Patriots utilize the next five days to prepare for the game on Sunday afternoon,
and then how the two teams are able to execute in that one opportunity during
the week that they compete against each other. That’s what’s really
relevant to me.”
