C Larry Turner

On how it feels to be drafter by the Rams:  “It feels good.  Really, really good.  I went to have my visit last week to St. Louis and I was hoping that they would get me, because I went to Buffalo and Atlanta.  I really liked Coach Martz and Coach Matsko and the whole Rams organization.  The city of St. Louis was just beautiful.  I really wanted to go there out of all the teams that I visited.”

On the positions that he has played at Eastern Kentucky:  “My freshman year, I didn’t get redshirted, and I started six games, three at left tackle and three at right.  My sophomore and junior year, I started both years at right guard, and my final year I moved to center.”

On how he ended up at Eastern Kentucky:  “I was offered by Bowling Green, Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky, and Bowling Green took my scholarship away because their entire coaching staff got fired and they went with a wide receiver.  I just wanted to come to Eastern Kentucky because it was closest to home.  I wanted my Dad and my Mom to come watch me play.”

On what position he likes to play and what the Rams want him to play:  “Center.  I prefer center because that is the position that best suits me.  That is where they want me to play, that is where Coach Matsko wants me to play, at center.  That is the only place that I think that he sees me playing.  Not a guard or nothing like that.”

On the offense that Eastern Kentucky runs:  “This year, we got a new Coach, Danny Hope.  He came from Purdue.  We ran a more open offense.  Our base formation was three wide receivers and one tight end and one back.  We did a lot of short passing, sprints outs, the whole works in the passing game.

On knowing the Rams blocking schemes:  “When Coach Matsko came up here to work me out, he quizzed me on some of the plays they run and some of the formations and some of the protections.  He said that everybody thinks that the protections are complicated, but it is really universal-- most of the formation and most of the pass protections and running plays.  The running plays he ran and the past protections are somewhat similar to what I’ve run here at Eastern.”

On what he did this weekend and his draft expectations:  “This weekend I sat around Saturday and Sunday here at my house with my friends.  My agent was thinking that I could get drafted, but towards the end here, I thought that I was going to go to free agency.  I knew that Rams had two picks, but I hadn’t heard anything from them.  Buffalo and Atlanta used up their picks and they were calling for free agency.  I told them that I wanted to wait to see that the Rams were going to do before I made my decision on where I was going to go.  Coach Martz called me up and said that you are getting drafted and made my day.”

TE Erik Jensen

On how it feels to be drafter by the Rams:  “It feels real good.  It’s a good feeling.”

On having a sense of where he might get drafted:  “Just a word from my agent.  Late round or free agency.  I was just hoping to go anywhere.”

On having an idea that the Rams were interested in him:  “I talked to a couple of people from there earlier this week.  My agent said that they had expressed interest.  I was hoping for them to pick me up, so it worked out real well.”

On playing fullback at Iowa:  “I got recruited as a fullback.  I played my redshirt freshman year as a fullback at Iowa.  Then I got moved to tight end because of lack of numbers after my redshirt year.”

On liking to play tight end:  “I like it, but fullback is more of my natural position.  I really don’t mind wherever I am playing on the field is great with me.”

On strengths of game:  “The strength of my game I would probably say is blocking.  I am more of a blocking guy.  Going out hitting somebody I guess.”

On getting passes in college:  “I got a couple of passes, but I was mostly a blocking tight end guy.”

On working with Kirk Ferentz:  “He is a real technique guy.  He is all about pad position and pad placement.  He really takes time working on footwork.  He knows his stuff about blocking.  I didn’t know much about tight end going into the tight end position, but coming out of it, he is a great guy to learn from.”

On dreaming about playing in the NFL:  “Ever since I can remember, I have always said that this is what I want to do.”
