On being drafted by the Rams:  “I’m excited about getting into an organization such as the Rams.  That’s a really nice place for a quarterback to go.”

On similarities between the Michigan State and Rams offenses:  “There definitely is.  I had the pro-style offense my first three years, then we switched to the John L. Smith-style offense.  It’s pass-oriented.  A lot of single backs. short pass, pass first, run second type thing.  There are a lot of similarities to what we do.  We like to spread out the field and throw the ball.  The Rams like to do that too.  I’ll find out more when I get into the offense, but I see a lot of similarities.”

On his visit to Rams park:  “I hit it off with all of the coaches there-- Coach Martz and Coach Ramsdell.  It’s a great staff there and a great organization and I’m excited.”

On the Rams quarterback situation:  “I have been following what I see on television and in the newspapers.  Those are two great quarterbacks that you have there.  I guess that it is a tough situation for both of them to stay.  They are both great quarterbacks.  I’m not sure what is going to happen there with them, but we will see.”

On Marc Bulger:  “He went to West Virginia which is not far from here and had a pretty good career there.  Not a lot of people expected a lot from him coming into the NFL, but things happen and he got his shot and once he got his shot he took advantage of it, and that is what you need to be able to do.”

On feeling that he is capable of playing next year:  “I feel that I could.  Obviously I would like to get a year or so before that had to happen to learn the system, but I feel that I am an extremely quick learner and if something did have to happen where I had to play this year, I would be able to get ready.”

On substance abuse affecting draft status:  “It may have, it may not.  It is behind me in the past.  I can’t worry about it now if it affected me or not.  You just have to look to the future.”

On the Rams asking him about the substance abuse situation:  “Yeah, they definitely asked that, which most ball teams did and it is important that they asked that.  We talked about it and they were satisfied with what I had to say.  Like I said, it is in the past and that is where I am going to keep it.”

On 2003 being a good year:  “Definitely.  With the new coaching staff that came in, the offense that they had, it was a lot of fun to get to throw a lot of balls in games and getting to play in that offense.  It was a lot of fun and an enjoyable season.  We had a pretty great season. We made a nice run.  I really enjoyed it.  It was the most fun I had, my senior year.”

On Rams receivers:  “Honestly, I don’t think that it gets any better than that in the NFL with Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce and those guys.  They are terrific receivers and they do a terrific job in route running and getting where they have to be.  I don’t think that it gets any better than that.”
