The St. Louis Rams and the St. Louis Public Schools presented awards to the Rams Physical Education Teacher of the Year for Elementary, Middle and High School at Rams Park on Saturday, June 9. This award is part of an ongoing effort to highlight the outstanding talent and commitment of physical education teachers in the St. Louis Public Schools and recognize the significant role physical education professionals play in the education of children. Constance Turner from Mullanphy Investigative Learning Center received the elementary school award. Lola Vaugn of Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts was presented the middle school award, and Mildred T. Myers from Soldan International Studies was the winner for the high school category. Finalists received $1000, two plaques as well as $500 to purchase equipment for their classroom. The St. Louis Rams community outreach team, which includes the St. Louis Rams Foundation, supports efforts and organizations that inspire positive change in the greater St. Louis area with an emphasis on youth in the areas of education, literacy, health and recreation. Since moving to St. Louis in 1995, the Rams have contributed more than $2.5 million in cash, grants, merchandise and tickets to area charities. Rams programs range from awarding game tickets to youth organizations for their work on community projects to addressing diversity issues through school and community education programs and awareness building. The Rams also encourage reading with a reading list of favorite books suggested by members of the St. Louis Rams and team owner Georgia Frontiere. ---
