RAMS BEGIN 2000 NFL SEASON ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
ST. LOUIS--The St. Louis Rams, winners of Super Bowl XXXIV, will begin their sixth season in the Gateway City at home against the Denver Broncos, winners of Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII, on Monday Night, September 4. The appearance on Monday Night Football will be the RamsÍ first prime-time televise since 1991 when the Los Angeles Rams played the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams will be featured on national television at least six times, twice in the preseason and four times during the regular season. It marks the fifth consecutive season that St. Louis has opened at the Trans World Dome. The Rams are 4-2 in home openers in the 1990 and are 4-1 in season openers since moving to St. Louis in 1995. The Rams defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-10 en route to their first NFC Western Division crown since 1989 and first Super Bowl victory in the franchise history. "That is what is so exciting," said Rams Head Coach Mike Martz, "for our players, our organization, the whole city. Monday Night has a postseason atmosphere. We will just line up and play the games." After hosting the Broncos, the Rams will travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks, who were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season. The Rams then play two of their next three games at home, hosting NFC West rival San Francisco in Week 3 and San Diego in the Week 5. Following a Week 6 bye, the Rams play host to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7, who host St. Louis in Week 4. The "Battle of Highway 70" takes place in Week 8, when the Rams travel up the road to play the Kansas City Chiefs. Two weeks later, ESPN travels to the Trans World Dome to televise the RamsÍ contest against the Carolina Panthers, their NFC West rivals. The Washington Redskins, who lost in the divisional championship on a failed field goal attempt, travel to the Gateway City for the second of three Monday Night Football appearances against the Rams in Week 12. St. Louis will encounter 1999 playoff foes in Week 15 and 16, respectively. The Rams-Vikings matchup on December 10 is a rematch of the RamsÍ 49-37 victory in the opening round of the playoffs. The following week, St. Louis travels to Tampa Bay for their third and final appearance on Monday Night in a rematch of the NFC Championship game, which St. Louis won 11-6. 2000 St. Louis Rams Schedule: PRESEASON Sat.
