Finalist for Football News’ National Defensive Player of the Year Award...One of three finalists for the Dick Butkus Award, given to the top linebacker in college football...Started all year at weakside outside linebacker...Led the team with a career-high 127 tackles (93 solos)...Had four sacks for minus 33 yards and 15 stops for losses of 70 yards...Recovered four fumbles and caused three others...Intercepted a pass a deflected five others.

1999 SEASON

All Pac-10 Conference first-team selection...Named team Most Valuable Player...Started the final eleven games at weakside outside linebacker...Despite missing the season opener, he still led the team with 111 tackles (59 solos)...Had five sacks for minus 51 yards and 21 stops for losses of 102 yards...His 21 stops behind the line of scrimmage rank seventh on the school’s season-record list...Intercepted a pass and deflected three others...Also caused a fumble. New Mexico State...Had 11 tackles, a 7-yard sack and 2 stops for losses of 11 yards. California...Registered 13 tackles with a pair of sacks for minus 18 yards. UCLA...Added 6 solo tackles, 2 stops behind the line of scrimmage and had an interception late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 28-27 victory. Notre Dame...Followed with a forced fumble, 12 tackles and 2 stops for minus 6 yards. Washington...Made 9 tackles, including a 12-yard sack and 4 stops behind the line of scrimmage. Washington State...Matched his season-high with 13 tackles (6 solos), a 14-yard sack and 3 stops for losses of 21 yards. Oregon...Credited with an 11-tackle performance. Southern California...Had 10 stops and a pass breakup. Stanford...Collected 9 tackles (8 solos) with 4 stops for losses of 11 yards. Arizona...Made 8 tackles and 2 stops for minus 10 yards. Wake Forest (Aloha Bowl)...Was in on 9 tackles (6 solos).

1998 SEASON

Moved into the starting lineup at weakside linebacker, playing in every game...Finished with 75 tackles (39 solos), five sacks for minus 38 yards and 18 stops for losses of 74 yards...Recovered two fumbles and caused another...Also deflected a pass. Brigham Young...Had a season-high 13-tackle effort. North Texas...Added 7 tackles and 2 stops for losses of 7 yards. Oregon State...Recovered a fumble by tailback Ken Simonton to set up a scoring drive and registered 11 tackles with a 9-yard sack and 5 stops for losses of 18 yards. Notre Dame...Made 8 tackles, including a 7-yard sack and 2 stops for minus 10 yards. Washington State...Followed with a 7-yard sack, 2 stops behind the line of scrimmage and 5 assisted tackles. California...Sacked QB Justin Vedder for a 10-yard loss, causing a fumble on the play which he recovered at the Cal 6-yard line and came up with 7 tackles (4 solos). Oregon...Delivered 4 tackles, a 5-yard sack and 2 stops for minus 6 yards. Arizona...Had 4 tackles and a pair of stops behind the line of scrimmage, including one on receiver Dennis Northcutt that resulted in a 10-yard loss on a reverse. 1997 SEASON Appeared in every game as a reserve inside linebacker, recording 17 tackles (11 solos) while appearing mostly on special teams. New Mexico State...In his first game for the Sun devils, he posted 5 tackles. Oregon...Collected 3 tackles. Brigham Young...Had a pair of tackles on the punt coverage unit. Iowa (Sun Bowl)...Added another 2 solo tackles.

Redshirted after joining the team as a walk-on.

A 1996 graduate of Chandler (Az.) High...As a junior and senior, he earned first-team All-Central Region and All-State honorable mention...Named Channel 12 News Defensive Player of the Year and All-Valley as a defensive back and running back in his final year...MVP for the 1996 All-Hispanic team.
