RAMS HOST DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS IN HOME OPENER

The Rams host their first home game of the 2008 season this week, taking on the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The contest will mark the first time that the Rams have faced a defending Super Bowl champion in the regular season since the Rams took on the New England Patriots (11/7/04) after the Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

The Rams lead the all-time series (regular and postseason) vs. New York 26-13, dating to 1938.

The Rams have enjoyed success in season-opening games since 1995. Since moving to St. Louis, the Rams hold a 10-3 record in home opening contests. The team is 47-25-3 all-time in home openers.

RB Marshall Faulk had 16 rushing yards on three carries giving him 12,080 career rushing yards, moving Faulk past Thurman Thomas for 11th place on the NFL’s all-time rushing list. WR Torry Holt had seven receptions in the 100th game of his career, extending his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 95. K Jeff Wilkins extended his streak of consecutive PAT to 285,
third-longest in NFL history. WR Shaun McDonald led the team with nine receptions for 121 yards. WR Dane Looker added a career-high 90 yards on eight receptions.
