RAMS WELCOME PANTHERS TO ST. LOUIS FOR 2007 SEASON OPENER

Game Preview

The Rams finished the 2006 season with a three game winning streak and hope to carry that momentum into head coach Scott Linehan’s second season as the team opens the regular season this week with a home game against the Carolina Panthers at the Edward Jones Dome. This will be the second consecutive year that the Rams have opened at home, defeating Denver, 18-10, last
season to give Linehan his first career victory.

In that game, K Jeff Wilkins set a Rams’ record by making six of seven field goal attempts (26, 38, 29, 51, 48 and 24 yards, missing from 44 yards.) The seven attempts tied a Rams record, while the six made field goals established a Rams record. The six field goals also tied for the second-most in one game in NFL history, while the seven attempts tied for third most in NFL history.

The Rams will enter the 2007 season led by nine team captains. The captains for this year are K Jeff Wilkins, S Corey Chavous, LB Will Witherspoon, DT La’Roi Glover, LB Pisa Tinoisamoa QB Marc Bulger, WR Isaac Bruce, WR Torry Holt and RB Steven Jackson.

The Rams season opening game versus Carolina marks the first time that the Rams and Panthers have faced each other in the opening weekend. This week’s contest will be a rematch of last season’s 15-0 loss to the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Week 11. The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Rams, 10-7.

Fourth Quarter The Panthers opened the quarter with Kasay connected from 35 yards out to give Carolina a 17-13 lead with 14:56 to go. The Rams continued to struggle on offense, going three and out again and the Panthers put together another long drive, this time on the backs of running backs Foster and Williams. Carolina finished this drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Delhomme to Carter to give Carolina a 24-13 lead with 7:15 to play. The Rams challenged the catch, but the officials ruled it good when it was clear Carter had control and got both feet down. The Panthers controlled the ball and the clock for most of the rest of the game and closed out the Rams as Kasay connected from 32 yards out for the final margin. Third Quarter The second half got off to the scintillating start the Rams envisioned when they traded for returner Dante Hall in the offseason. Hall broke off an 84-yard kickoff return to give the Rams the ball at Carolina’s 17 to open the third quarter. Alas, the offense couldn’t muster more than 7 yards and had to settle for a 28-yard field goal from Wilkins to give the Rams a 13-7 lead with 12:51 to go in the quarter. The extent of Pace’s injury is not known, but he will not return. The Panthers finally got another first down on the first play of the next drive, but the Rams came up with a big play on defense. On third-and-12 at the Carolina 34, it appeared DeAngelo Williams was about to convert for a first down when safety Corey Chavous jarred the ball loose and linebacker Will Witherspoon recovered at Carolina’s 49 with 10:39 to go in the quarter. The Rams gave it right back, though, three plays later as Jackson coughed up a fumble that defensive end Julius Peppers recovered at the Panthers’ 26 with 9:19 to go. Carolina wasted no time taking advantage of this opportunity, though. On the second play of the drive, Delhomme hit Smith in stride for a 68-yard touchdown over the top of cornerback Tye Hill. The extra point gave the Panthers a 14-13 lead and momentum with 8:33 to go in the quarter. The Panthers, with momentum in tow, got another turnover as Jackson coughed up a fumble again when he ran into Holt. Chris Gamble recovered at the Rams’ 26, giving the Panthers more excellent field position. This time, Carolina didn’t need Smith’s services as Foster gashed the Rams for 23 yards on the first two plays of the drive. But the fumbling issues continued as Brandon Chillar stripped the ball loose. The Rams recovered and Carolina challenged. The ruling on the field stood as there was no conclusive evidence and the Rams took over at their 3. But the Rams couldn’t get anything going again on offense and were forced to punt from their end zone. Jones hit a high, hanging punt that was fair caught at the Carolina 43. The Panthers marched into St. Louis territory and Kasay was setting up for a 34-yard field goal attempt as time ran out in the quarter with the Panthers leading 14-13. Second Quarter Just as it appeared the Rams were in trouble as DeShaun Foster ripped off two runs for a gain of 38 yards, rookie Adam Carriker came up with a big play. Sandwiched between a pair of incompletions, Carriker broke into the backfield and dropped Foster for a 1-yard loss. Carolina kicker John Kasay promptly missed a 47-yard field goal wide right and the Rams took over at their 37 with 13:16 to go in the half. Jackson got the Rams off to a rousing start on their second possession with a 13-yard gain, but the offense could only muster another 4 yards before punting it back to Carolina. The Panthers took over for their third possession at their 10 with 11:02 to go in the half. The Rams got a quick three and out and took over at their 24 with 10:01 to go. Both sides continued in a defensive struggle through the rest of the quarter, trading three and outs and searching for offensive answers. As the two-minute warning neared, though, the Rams got another three and out, their third of the quarter and got the ball back at their 42 with 1:50 to go and all three timeouts remaining. On the first play of the drive, left tackle Orlando Pace appeared to injure his right shoulder, writhing in pain before he came to rest near the Rams’ sideline. Pace immediately went to the locker room for x rays. Adam Goldberg took his place at left tackle. The Rams continued the drive without Pace, though and moved into Carolina territory on the strength of Bulger’s legs as he picked up 14 yards on third-and-6 to move into field goal range. Wilkins hit from 42 yards to end the half and send the Rams in to the locker room with a 10-7 lead. First Quarter The Panthers won the toss and elected to receive and it appeared the Rams defense was in good position after a false start penalty on the opening play. But the Panthers converted a third-and-2 when safety Oshiomogho Atogwe was flagged for a 29-yard pass interference penalty that gave Carolina a first down. Carolina used that momentum as it continued to come out throwing. Quarterback Jake Delhomme hit receiver Drew Carter for a 10-yard touchdown to finish a 78-yard drive and give the Panthers a 7-0 lead with 9:20 to go in the quarter. Any lingering questions about the Rams offense and its ability to put points on the board were answered quickly as that unit came right back with an impressive drive that covered 67 yards on 15 plays with a good mix of run and pass. Running back Steven Jackson picked up 31 yards on seven carries and receiver Torry Holt looked like his old self with three catches for 18 yards including a 3-yard touchdown to cap the drive. Jeff Wilkins’ extra point tied it at 7 with two minutes to go in the quarter. The Rams converted five third downs on the drive on the way to the first touchdown by the first offensive unit of the season. Carolina has the ball on the Rams’ 46 on second-and-8 at the end of the quarter. Pregame Notes - Greetings from the Edward Jones Dome and Happy Unofficial Football Holiday. The Rams and Panthers are ready to tee it up and get this season going. It’s been a long wait and it’s time to go. - Richie Incognito is officially inactive for today’s game and he will be replaced in the starting lineup by Milford Brown. It’s a bit of a surprise that Brown got the nod over Claude Terrell, but the logic makes sense. Brown has more experience and can be moved out to tackle if the need comes up. Terrell is also on the inactive list. - Receiver Drew Bennett’s debut as a Ram will also have to wait as he is on the inactive list. Bennett is still dealing with a hamstring injury. Dante Hall will get some work as the third receiver, but expect to see plenty of Dane Looker and a smidgeon of Marques Hagans also. - Defensive end Victor Adeyanju’s knee didn’t improve, either and he is also inactive. Trevor Johnson will serve as the third defensive end. - The Panthers have no surprises on their inactive list and cornerback Chris Gamble, who was questionable this week is playing. - See Rams Connect for the complete list of inactives.

Steve Savard - Play-by-Play
2007 will be Steve's 10th year on the Rams' broadcast team and his 8th season as play-by-play man. A native of St. Louis, Steve Savard has called play-by-play for more St. Louis Rams' games than any other broadcaster. Steve is the Emmy Award winning Sports Director for News 4, KMOV-TV in St. Louis. Prior to his broadcast career, Steve was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys for 2 seasons before a neck injury ended his career in 1987. He also attended Northwest Missouri State University where he was a two-time MIAA Conference First Team Linebacker. Steve is also the co-host of The Coach Scott Linehan Show on Rams Radio.

Jim Hanifan - Color Analyst
Arguably the finest offensive line coach in the history of professional football, Jim Hanifan joined Rams Radio after 31 seasons as an NFL Assistant and Head Coach. Jim served as Head Coach for The Big Red for 6 seasons starting in 1980 and has won two Super Bowls, with the Washington Redskins in 1991 and the St. Louis Rams in 1999. In 2003, he released a book co-written with Rob Rains titled Beyond Xs and Os: My 30 Years in the NFL. In addition to his color analyst duties, Jim will also have his own show on Rams Rush Hour at 7:00pm.
 
Malcolm Briggs - Sideline Reporter and Pregame Host
Malcolm has been the sideline for Rams Radio for 8 seasons now. Malcolm is an expert at investigating gameday situations, and is skilled in getting the player perspective. Malcolm attended Kansas State University where he called play-by-play for football, baseball and basketball. Malcolm also serves as the co-host of The Steven Jackson Show.
 
D'Marco Farr - Pregame Analyst
D'Marco Farr played defensive tackle for 7 seasons in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams. Farr's football career started at the University of Washington, where he won a National Championship in 1991. His NFL highlights include playing one year with the Los Angeles Rams before the team moved to St. Louis, representing the NFC in the Pro Bowl in 2000 and culminated with a World Championship in 2000. Upon his retirement from football in 2001, Farr made a successful career switch into broadcasting. He was a regular on Fox Sports Net's hit show "The Best Damn Sports Show, Period." from 2001 to 2003.

Scott Warmann – Studio Anchor
A St Louis native, Scott is heading into his 4th season on the Rams Radio Broadcast.  His first year was the championship season in 1999.  He has spent the last couple of seasons as the studio host.  Scott has also served as the studio host for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament telecast the last couple of years on Fox Sports Net.  And he is heading into his seventh season as a member of the Gateway Football Conference broadcast team.

Doug Vaughn - Pregame & Postgame Analyst
Doug Vaughn returned to his hometown of St. Louis to join KMOV Channel 4 as a Sports Anchor and Reporter in 1988. Vaughn anchors the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. sportscasts on Fridays, and the 5:30 and 10:30 p.m. sportscasts on Sundays. He is also a Reporter for the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. sportscasts, Monday through Wednesday, and is the main Reporter on News 4's "Sports Sunday," a 60-minute show that highlights local and national sports news. A lover of all sports, Vaughn excelled in baseball and played for two years at St. Louis Community College at Meramec before transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia during his junior year. Now his baseball is limited to coaching little league teams. Vaughn is a graduate from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.

Start 'Em & Sit 'Em: Week 1

Note: Sleeper alert focuses on players who aren't considered regular starters but have favorable matchups and could produce at a high level. Owners beware focuses on prominent players with unfavorable matchups who could fail to meet statistical expectations. Players with an asterisk (*) opened the week on their team's injury report and should be monitored throughout the weekend.

START OF THE WEEK
Laurence Maroney, RB, New England: Maroney didn't see much preseason work as he recovered from a surgical procedure on his shoulder, but he did show flashes of brilliance in his lone exhibition contest with a 58-yard performance against Carolina. He'll have fresh legs in the regular-season opener at the Meadowlands, where he faces a New York Jets defense that allowed an average of 127.6 rushing yards at home last season. The Men in Green didn't look much improved in Week 3 of the preseason, as their defense surrendered 136 yards on the ground to the New York Giants. Maroney will see more than his share of work, so look for him to start the season off on a high note.

QUARTERBACKS: START 'EM
Marc Bulger, St. Louis: There's one simple rule when it comes to Bulger: When he is starting at the Edwards Jones Dome, Bulger should be a lock to start for fantasy owners. He averaged 315 passing yards with a 96.8 passer rating and threw 17 of his 24 touchdowns on his home turf last season, and that sort of success should continue against Carolina. The Panthers have some new components in their defensive backfield, and they didn't look good in Week 3 of the preseason against the Patriots. Tom Brady completed 77 percent of his passes and tossed two scores against them in a 24-7 win. Bulger should find similar success in what will be a prolific offensive attack, so make sure he's active.

Tony Romo, QB, Dallas: Romo should begin 2007 with a monster performance against the Giants. He looked tremendous in the preseason with a completion percentage of almost 70 percent and a passer rating of 89.7, and Romo will smell blood when he sees a Big Blue defense riddled with injuries. The team lost S Will Demps and will start the inexperienced James Butler at strong safety, so Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn (if active), Patrick Crayton and Jason Witten should find open seams all night. The presence of new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will mean a more aggressive pass attack, so Romo should throw for 200-250 yards and double-digit touchdowns.

More quarterbacks with favorable matchups: Matt Hasselbeck vs. Tampa Bay, Matt Leinart at San Francisco, Donovan McNabb at Green Bay, Steve McNair at Cincinnati, Alex Smith vs. Arizona.

Sleeper alert: David Garrard vs. Tennessee.

QUARTERBACKS: SIT 'EM
Rex Grossman, Chicago: It's almost impossible to trust Grossman headed into this season. While he did lead the Bears to an appearance in Super Bowl XLI, his proneness to turnovers and inconsistent level of production makes him a serious risk. Furthermore, the immense pressure that All-Pro LB Shawne Merriman and the San Diego defense will put on Grossman will not be conducive for success out of the former Florida Gators signal-caller. In what could turn into a ball-controlled, defensive-laden contest, Grossman will struggle to produce for fantasy owners.

Jon Kitna, Detroit: Kitna was a hot name in fantasy drafts -- most experts feel he will throw for 4,000 yard by default -- but he could get off to a poor start against an underrated Oakland defense. The silver and black finished last season with the NFL's top-rated pass defense (it allowed an average of just 146.6 passing yards at home), and the addition of rookie S Michael Huff and emergence of CB Nnamdi Asomugha makes it that much more formidable. Owners should also keep in mind that while Kitna did throw 21 touchdown passes in 2006, he also tossed 21 interceptions. What's more, close to 40 percent of his touchdowns came in the final two weeks of the season.

More quarterbacks with unfavorable matchups: Jason Campbell vs. Miami, Jake Delhomme at St. Louis, Brett Favre vs. Philadelphia, J.P. Losman vs. Denver, Chad Pennington vs. New England.

Owners beware: Vince Young at Jacksonville.

RUNNING BACKS: START 'EM
Travis Henry, Denver: Henry's career took a downward turn in 2004 when he was with this week's opponent, the Buffalo Bills. The franchise quit on him and drafted Willis McGahee, only to see Henry resurrect himself in Tennessee. Now the featured back in Denver, he'll be motivated to run the ball down the throats of his former team. His sprained knee should not be an issue, so head coach Mike Shanahan will use Henry quite a bit against a Buffalo defense that surrendered close to 140 rushing yards at home last season. The Bills didn't look like it improved vs. the run in Week 3 of the preseason -- they allowed 132 yards and a score to Tennessee -- so Henry should pile on the numbers.

More running backs with favorable matchups: Ronnie Brown at Washington, Ahman Green vs. Kansas City, Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Tennessee, LaMont Jordan vs. Detroit, Willie Parker at Cleveland.

Sleeper alert: DeAngelo Williams at St. Louis.

RUNNING BACKS: SIT 'EM
Jamal Lewis, Cleveland: Lewis did make a nice return to fantasy relevance last season with 1,132 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, but a move from Baltimore to Cleveland did not help his value. The Browns don't have much in terms of a pass attack, so Lewis will see his share of stacked fronts vs. a Pittsburgh defense that should be ultra-aggressive. While the Black Curtain does have some new parts -- LB Joey Porter left for Miami and rookie LBs Lawrence Timmons and LaMarr Woodley will now be utilized -- it should still be one of the NFL's most formidable units. It also allowed an average of under 100 rushing yards last season, so Lewis could be in for a tough afternoon.

Warrick Dunn, Atlanta: Dunn's fantasy value has been a bit of a roller coaster ride in 2007. He endured a surgical procedure on his back that was supposed to keep him out of action for a month, but he returned ahead of schedule and remained ahead of Jerious Norwood on the depth chart. While that's a positive overall, Dunn is still expected to share the workload with Norwood, so he's not a featured back in the offense. Head coach Bobby Petrino wants to throw the football more often as well, so the ground attack won't be what it was last season. Dunn must also contend with a Minnesota defense that was like a brick wall against the run in 2006, so the veteran is a serious fantasy risk.

More running backs with unfavorable matchups: Cedric Benson at San Diego, Rudi Johnson vs. Baltimore, Thomas Jones vs. New England, Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo, LenDale White at Jacksonville.

Owners beware: Clinton Portis vs. Miami.

WIDE RECEIVERS: START 'EM
Anquan Boldin, Arizona: One of the more skilled wide receivers in the NFL, Boldin should post solid stats in the regular-season opener against San Francisco. He has gained a terrific rapport with Matt Leinart, and he'll no doubt be prominent in this NFC West battle with the 49ers. While their defense should be much improved with the addition of veteran CB Nate Clements and rookie LB Patrick Willis, the Niners have never been able to hand Boldin between the white lines. In his last five starts against the 49ers, the Cardinals wideout has recorded a combined 36 receptions, 507 yards and made three visits to the end zone.

Hines Ward, Pittsburgh: Ward, who sustained a broken nose in the preseason, underwent a surgical procedure to repair the damage and will start against Cleveland. New offensive coordinator Bruce Arians will throw the football much more often than the previous regime, and Ward will be a major part of the team's new look. Ward, who has recorded 22 receptions, 310 yards and three touchdowns in his past three contests against the Browns, should continue to dominate a pass defense that was mediocre last season. Look for the Steelers to establish the run in the first half with Willie Parker, which will open up the pass (and play action) for Ben Roethlisberger, Ward and the entire pass attack.

More wide receivers with favorable matchups: Deion Branch vs. Tampa Bay, Plaxico Burress at Dallas, Mark Clayton at Cincinnati, Braylon Edwards vs. Pittsburgh, Darrell Jackson vs. Arizona.

Sleeper alert: Ronald Curry vs. Detroit.

WIDE RECEIVERS: SIT 'EM
Joey Galloway, Tampa Bay: Galloway posted his second consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2006, but he was very inconsistent. The veteran posted three or fewer receptions in seven contests, which was due in part to the fact that the Buccaneers were anemic on offense. That should improve with Jeff Garcia, but that doesn't change that Galloway has a difficult road to tow against his former team, the Seattle Seahawks. Their defense was difficult to throw on at Qwest Field last season -- opponents averaged under 190 receiving yards -- and the Bucs have a crowded core of wideouts that will make Galloway no more than a No. 3 fantasy wideout.

Chris Chambers, Miami: One of the biggest disappointments of last season, Chambers failed to record even 700 yards after posting 1,118 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2005. He's still the top wideout in Miami, but the fact that the team put him on the trade block late in the preseason should be an indication of how the franchise feels about his lack of production. This seems like a favorable matchup on paper, as the Washington Redskins finished 23rd in pass defense last season. However, a mere seven teams allowed fewer receiving yards on their home field -- the Skins surrendered just over 180 yards per contest -- so Chambers and the Miami receivers could struggle to post attractive numbers.

More wide receivers with unfavorable matchups: Jerricho Cotchery vs. New England, Donald Driver vs. Philadelphia, Vincent Jackson vs. Chicago, Calvin Johnson at Oakland, Santana Moss vs. Miami.

Owners beware: Lee Evans vs. Denver.

TIGHT ENDS: START 'EM
Jeremy Shockey, N.Y. Giants: Shockey didn't do much in the preseason, but he's still one of the top tight ends in fantasy football. Furthermore, his success against this week's opponent, the Dallas Cowboys, makes him a nice starter in all formats. The former Miami Hurricanes standout has scored a touchdown in five of his past six games against the Polks, and he'll remain a prominent target in the red zone for Eli Manning in the pass attack in 2007. The Cowboys could be a bit vulnerable to the pass on Sunday night, so Shockey should be active.

Vernon Davis, San Francisco: One of the top breakout candidates on NFL.com, Davis has a chance to start his sophomore season in the NFL with a real bang. While he missed a portion of 2006 with an injured leg, Davis did play twice against Arizona and recorded a combined nine receptions for 128 yards and one touchdown. The Cardinals still have a questionable defense -- the team allowed an average of over 210 receiving yards on the road in 2006 -- so the Niners will no doubt look to him often in what should be an improved pass attack.

More tight ends with favorable matchups: Alge Crumpler at Minnesota, Tony Gonzalez at Houston, Randy McMichael vs. Carolina, Kellen Winslow vs. Pittsburgh, Jason Witten vs. N.Y. Giants.

Sleeper alert: Owen Daniels vs. Kansas City.

TIGHT ENDS: SIT 'EM
Daniel Graham, Denver: Graham was one of the bigger acquisitions of the offseason for the Broncos, signing a five-year, $30 million deal. Assistant head coach Mike Heimerdinger believes Graham could catch 50-plus passes in the offensive attack, but his limited preseason numbers (two receptions, 32 yards) and the presence of touchdown-machine Tony Scheffler hurt his value. He could very well have a solid season, but at this point Graham still needs to prove himself as a consistent pass catcher before owners should consider him a viable No. 1 fantasy tight end.

Bo Scaife, Tennessee: Scaife is a nice sleeper candidate after a solid preseason that saw him pass Ben Troupe on the depth chart, but this week's battle against the Jacksonville Jaguars is not a favorable one. Head coach Jack Del Rio's defense was almost impenetrable at home last season -- no team surrendered fewer points on their home turf -- so the Titans could be hard pressed to work the scoreboard operator. Unless you're in a deeper league or desperate for a tight end, Scaife should be left on the sidelines until at least Week 2 or 3.

More tight end with unfavorable matchups: Chris Baker vs. New England, Desmond Clark at San Diego, Jeff King at St. Louis, David Martin at Washington, Heath Miller at Cleveland.

Owners beware: L.J. Smith at Green Bay.

KICKERS: START 'EM
Neil Rackers, Arizona: Rackers was the top kicker in fantasy football back in 2005, but his numbers and level of consitent production fell last season. He should rebound in 2007, however, as new head coach Ken Whisenhunt should help make the Cardinals a more potent offense. He kicked more field goals against San Francisco last season than any other team (six), and he has a combined 12 field-goal conversions against them over the past two seasons. A viable No. 1 fantasy kicker, Rackers should be active in most formats.

Jason Hanson, Detroit: The Lions pass defense could struggle against the Raiders this week, so a few stalled drives could leave Hanson a chance to produce multiple field goals. It also bodes well that the silver and black allowed 31 field-goal conversions last season -- that was tied for the third most in the NFL -- so the veteran kicker should produce nice numbers. If you're not confident in the kicker you drafted headed into the regular season, take a chance on Hanson.

More kickers with favorable matchups: David Akers at Green Bay, Robbie Gould at San Diego, Rian Lindell vs. Denver, Joe Nedney vs. Arizona, Jeff Wilkins vs. Carolina.

Sleeper alert: Nick Folk vs. N.Y. Giants.

KICKERS: SIT 'EM
Shayne Graham, Cincinnati: Graham is one of the better kickers in fantasy football, and he'll no doubt finish the season in the top half of most kicking categories at the end of the season. However, the fact that he has a sore hip makes him somewhat of a risk in Week 1. He returned to practice late in the week and would be a better option if he has no further setbacks, but starting a kicker who is at less than 100 percent is never a good idea. As a result, owners should start Graham only with extreme caution.

John Kasay, Carolina: Kasay is still a relevant option in fantasy football (he connected on close to 90 percent of his field goals last season), but his numbers could be less than attractive this week against a St. Louis defense that allowed a mere 19 conversions last season. Unless you're in a league with 12-plus teams, the strong-legged veteran out of Georgia is better left to the waiver wire in the regular-season opener.

More kickers with unfavorable matchups: Rob Bironas at Jacksonville, Josh Brown vs. Tampa Bay, Jeff Reed at Cleveland, Matt Stover at Cincinnati, Lawrence Tynes at Dallas.

Owners beware: Stephen Gostkowski at N.Y. Jets.

DEFENSES: START 'EM
 
Minnesota defense: The Vikings might have lost former defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin to Pittsburgh, but this unit still has a ton of talent. It should shine against Atlanta, which lost Michael Vick and is now left to start the inconsistent Joey Harrington. The Falcons offense could be a mess, so take a chance on the Vikes if you don't have a solid No. 1 fantasy defense.

Denver defense: The Broncos are absolutely loaded on defense after the additions of CB Dre' Bly, DE Simeon Rice and rookie DEs Tim Crowder and Jarvis Moss. With CB Champ Bailey set to blanket Lee Evans in the pass attack, the Bills could have a lot of trouble moving the ball on offense. Look for Denver to pressure J.P. Losman, who has struggled under pressure at times.

More defenses with favorable matchups: Jacksonville defense vs. Tennessee, Miami defense at Washington, Oakland defense vs. Detroit, Pittsburgh defense at Cleveland, Seattle defense vs. Tampa Bay.

Sleeper alert: Houston defense vs. Kansas City.

DEFENSES: SIT 'EM
 
Carolina defense: The Panthers defense was a serious disappointment in 2006, and this week's battle in St. Louis could mean a hard start to the 2007 season. The Rams offense averaged 26.0 points on their home field last season, and that was without Drew Bennett and Randy McMichael. Marc Bulger is always solid at home, so the Panthers aren't an attractive unit.

Cincinnati defense: The Bengals have a lot of new parts on the defensive side of the football, so it will take time for this to become a cohesive unit. They'll have a hard test in Week 1 against the Ravens, whose offense was much more productive once head coach Brian Billick took over the play-calling duties. Baltimore should score some points, so keep the Bengals on the sidelines.

More defenses with unfavorable matchups: Buffalo defense vs. Denver, Green Bay defense vs. Philadelphia, N.Y. Giants defense at Dallas, N.Y. Jets defense vs. New England, Tampa Bay defense at Seattle.

ADA ACCESSIBILITY
The Edward Jones Dome is barrier-free for guests with disabilities. Drop-off and pick-up for guests with disabilities should be made at the Broadway Central Entrance or at the Courtyard Entrance (located at 7th Street & Convention Plaza, near Entry A). All entrances, doorways, elevators, restrooms, and telephones are accessible.

AGE LIMIT
Children two years or older must have a valid ticket for entry. Children under the age of two are admitted free provided they sit on an adult’s lap as long as doing so does not disturb or obstruct the view of others nearby.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONSUMPTION
Guests at the Edward Jones Dome are encouraged to drink responsibly. The alcohol policies are listed below:

• The legal drinking age in Missouri is 21. Proper identification is required to purchase alcoholic beverages.
• The dome reserves the right to deny the sale of alcohol to anyone.
• Alcoholic beverages purchased during an event must be consumed or discarded prior to leaving the dome, even if leaving the dome to smoke.
• The purchase limit may be reduced and sales may be discontinued at any time at the discretion of dome management.
• Guests passing alcohol to minors will be ejected and subject to arrest.
• Noticeably intoxicated guests will not be allowed to enter the Dome.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEVICES
Guests with hearing impairments may obtain a listening device from any Guest Service Center or tune their own portable headset FM receiver to FM 89.1 to pick-up the house sound system. TDD equipment is available at public telephones located at Sections 113/114.

ATM MACHINES
For your convenience, ATM machines are provided by National City Bank and are located inside the Edward Jones Dome at Concourse Level Sections 117 & 145, and Terrace Level Sections 417 & 445.

BAG INSPECTION POLICY

• All bags are subject to inspection.
• Bags that are permitted include small bags such as purses and diaper bags (if the guest has a child with them). Management reserves the right to allow other bags based on the guest’s special needs on a case-by-case basis.
• Guests who arrive with large bags will be instructed to return the bag to their vehicle. Large bags will not be “claim-checked” at the gates. If the guest arrives with a large bag and did not drive to the dome, the guest will not be permitted to bring the bag into the event and the bag will not be claim-checked. Guests may dispose of the bag at an outside trash receptacle.

BANNERS & SIGNS
Banners can be hung only by rope, string or plastic ties and cannot obstruct the view of other fans or any permanent dome or sponsorship signs. Banners must avoid being profane, commercial, political or non-football related. Signs cannot be constructed of wood or metal material. The Rams reserve the right to remove any banner or sign that is deemed inappropriate. Removed banners will be claim-checked at the nearest Guest Service Center, and returned at the end of the game.

CAMERAS & VIDEO RECORDERS
Still camera photography is permitted with lenses of reasonable length that do not obstruct the view of other fans. Digital cameras are permitted as long as they do not record video. The use of tripods is not permitted. Video recording of any game action is strictly prohibited by the National Football League. Fans observed filming the game will have their video camera confiscated.

EJECTION
Any of the following will be cause for ejection from Rams football games without refund, arrest, and/or revocation of future ticket privileges:

• Abuse of intoxicants
• Profane or abusive language or obscene gestures
• Fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures
• Offensive or disorderly conduct
• Actions that may harm or endanger others
• Smoking inside the dome
• Possession or use of drugs
• Bringing prohibited items into the dome
• Throwing any object (including throwing any object from an escalator)
• Excessive standing that obstructs the view of others seated in the area
• Standing or sitting in the aisles
• Refusing to present a ticket stub when asked by dome personnel
• Sitting in a location other than your ticketed seat
• Standing on chairs and/or defacing or damaging any equipment
• Entering or attempting to enter the field level or playing field
• Wearing any apparel with profane or abusive language or picture
• Failure to follow the instructions of dome personnel
• Indecent exposure or undressing
• Displays of affection not appropriate in a public setting
• Attempting to solicit or distribute literature or other materials on the premises
• Entering the dome with invalid tickets or credentials
• Any disruption to the progress of the game
• Any other conduct or action deemed inappropriate by management

ELEVATORS
Public elevators for use by guests with disabilities are located at the Broadway Central Entrance and Courtyard Entrance (located at 7th Street & Convention Plaza, near Entry A). Guests with Club and Suite tickets should use the elevators located on the west side of the building by entering at the Courtyard entrance.

EMERGENCY
In the event of an emergency, guests can be reached by contacting the America’s Center at (314) 342-5036.  Caller must provide the individual’s name and exact seat location (section, row & seat). Public address announcements will only be made to locate a guest in an extreme emergency.

EVACUATION
Edward Jones Dome guest services staff are trained to handle any emergency situation that arises. During pre-game, a video will be shown on the scoreboard detailing the evacuation procedure. Should an evacuation become necessary, please make sure you are aware of the exits nearest your seat and be prepared to follow the instructions of the dome staff.

FIRST AID
Four fully-equipped and professionally staffed First Aid Rooms are located in the dome at Sections 110, 126, 410 & 426. Contact the nearest Guest Services Host who will summon help or guide you to the most convenient First Aid Room.

GATE OPENING
On game days all gates will open 90 minutes prior to kickoff. Please arrive early to enjoy all aspects of the game.

LOST & FOUND
Lost and found items may be turned in at any Guest Service Center, and if found, retrieved after the event at the Guest Service Center located on the Concourse Level near Section 117 or by calling the America’s Center administrative offices at (314) 342-5036 the next business day. Lost items will only be held for ten days.

LOST CHILDREN/PARENTS
Guests are encouraged to instruct children in their group to find a dome staff member if they become lost or separated from their group. Lost children will be taken to the nearest Guest Service Center. Parents looking for a lost child should follow the same procedure. Tag-A-Kid Program: Children may receive bright, fun arm bracelets from guest services displaying their seat location to prevent becoming lost in a crowd.

PARKING AT THE EDWARD JONES DOME
More than 30,000 parking spaces are available within a 10-minute walk of the Edward Jones Dome. There is also parking for up to 100 busses near the Dome.

PAT DOWNS
You and your belongings may be searched upon entry to the Edward Jones Dome. By tendering a ticket and entering the dome, you consent to such searches and waive any related claims that you might have against the NFL, its member clubs, their affiliates, the Edward Jones Dome or their agents. If you elect not to consent to the searches, you will be denied entry into the dome.

PROHIBITED ITEMS
For your safety and the continuity of the game on the field, the following items are prohibited in the Edward Jones Dome:

• Large bags 
• Food not dispensed by dome concessionaires**
• Beverages**
• Bottles, cans, coolers, containers, thermoses
• Video cameras
• Strollers
• Glitter or confetti
• Peanuts in the shell
• Projectiles (i.e. Frisbees, footballs or beach balls)
• Poles or sticks of any kind
• Laser devices
• Animals or pets (not including service animals)
• Artificial noisemakers of any kind (i.e. cowbells or air horns)
• Illegal drugs or substances
• Fireworks, candles, flares, balloons
• Firearms, knives, missiles and weapons of any kind
• Mace and pepper gas
• Any item that could obstruct a guest’s view of the field
• Any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate by management

** Exceptions may be made for those with medical requirements or special needs.

RADIOS AND TELEVISONS
Radios and televisions are permitted provided they do not interfere with the enjoyment of the game by other patrons. Please use headsets so as not to disturb other guests.

RADIO BROADCASTS
All games can be heard live on Rams Radio 103.3 FM KLOU. Games may also be heard on 550 AM KTRS.

RE-ENTRY
During Rams football games, guests may leave and re-enter the building through the available main entries. Guests leaving the dome are not permitted to take alcoholic beverages outside. Guests will receive a hand-stamp with their game ticket that will allow them to re-enter the dome.

SECURITY
Security measures may be increased based on direction from the NFL, orders from St. Louis Police or government, as well as the current federal terror threat level. These procedures will include but are not limited to a more thorough search of persons and property as well as a pat down.

SERVICE ANIMALS
Service animals, or those in training, for guests with disabilities are welcome in all areas of the dome. No other animal or pet is permitted in the dome.

SMOKING
The Edward Jones Dome is a non-smoking facility. During Rams football games, guests may leave and re-enter the building through the available main entries to smoke outdoors. Guests leaving the dome to smoke are not permitted to take alcoholic beverages outside. Guests will receive a hand-stamp with their game ticket that will allow them to re-enter the dome.

STANDING ROOM ONLY
Every ticket has a seat assignment. Please note that there are no standing room only tickets. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping the sightlines clear for all fans.

TELEVISON BROADCASTS
Preseason games will air on selected networks, local or national, depending on the game date. Rams regular season games are controlled by the NFL’s national network partners (CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, and NFL Network).

UMBRELLAS
Umbrellas are permitted inside the Edward Jones Dome if they are small enough to be stored under your seat during the game.

WILL CALL WINDOWS
Will Call windows open three hours prior to kickoff and close after halftime. Will Call is located at the main ticket office on the East side of the Edward Jones Dome at the Broadway Central Entrance (between entries B & C). Rams season ticket holders wanting to leave tickets for pick-up should do so at Will Call. The season ticket holder must clearly record the name of the person picking up the tickets and also indicate his or her name along with a phone number (preferably mobile phone) on the ticket envelope. Will Call tickets can be claimed only by the person whose name appears on the ticket envelope. Valid photo I.D. is required.
