BULGER CONTINUES TO IMPROVE IN PRESEASON

Rams QB Marc Bulger continues to play well for the Rams in the preseason.

Bulger, who saw action in almost three quarters in last night’s 19-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, had a pretty good night, passing for 188 yards and one touchdown. Bulger finished the game with a quarterback rating of 117.9, completing 13 of 19 passes.

'I wanted to come in and get some work,' Bulger said. 'I got three quarters in, which is pretty good. They put me in some situations where I had to come from behind again. Unfortunately, for the second week in a row, we weren’t able to get it done in the end.'

Bulger is getting the increased playing time because the Rams backup QB, Jamie Martin, is out with a shoulder injury he suffered against the Tennessee Titans in the first week of the preseason.

'Since I came here I wanted to play,' Bulger said. 'Sometimes you don’t get that opportunity, but I’ve been lucky enough to work my way into that opportunity.'

So far this preseason Bulger has completed 26 of 39 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns. He leads the team in every passing category and has a passer rating of 112.0.

'I thought he played very well,' Rams head coach Mike Martz said after the game. 'But, he is still hanging onto the ball, sometimes an incomplete pass is better than anything.'

'The other thing about Marc, he is talking to the rest of the guys in the huddle now,' Martz added. 'Usually when you have a young quarterback in the huddle they are looking at the sideline, trying to visualize the next play. He’s already got guys talking to him. Usually young quarterbacks are so nervous they just call the play and go up to the line of scrimmage and run it.' ---
